Half term foreign holiday? And how good is TUI re COVID?

We have avoided foreign travel since the pandemic began, but we are now really tempted to go to the Canaries at Feb half term. Two fully vaxxed adults and a double vaxxed teen, plus a DC under 11.

I need to change check my travel insurance (nationwide, comes with my bank account). But I'm assuming TUI will also have COVID related things in place to allow cancellation. As you can see we are in the very early stages of thinking about a holiday!

Part of me is quite desperate to get away and have some sun. But another part of me is really worried about ie if we test positive when we're away etc. And I'd only go with with watertight insurance.

Would you risk it??

No idea about TUI but my friend who is an independent travel agent says that the best company throughout Covid has been Jet2.

Thanks @Hoppinggreen.
There's a particular hotel that we want that we can only book with TUI, sadly.

We stayed at a Tui place in the canaries in Oct, it was very reasonably priced and we loved it (really weren't expecting to for the price). If they have to cancel due to lockdown you'll be able to change or get your money back but if you need to cancel then you'll need your own insurance. We didn't bother with insurance though, we just take the chance and are careful, we've been on four holidays abroad since it began. Make sure you have a GHIC card or whatever they are now as things covered by that might not be covered by insurance. I've only really read good stuff about Tui on FB and would certainly stay with them again. Got to be better than booking.com who I found very unhelpful when we first went into lockdown and had to cancel a holiday because the hotel was closed.

Thanks @Tal45. I've never gone away without insurance! I've had to use it a few times due accidents etc so I always make sure I'm as covered as I can be

We had lots of holidays booked with different companies which were cancelled or rearranged due to Covid. TUI were by far the best in terms of service. We then ended up going to Greece with them last summer and in resort they were brilliant. As soon as we got on the coach to the resort, they went through a very detailed briefing on what we all needed in order to fly home and gave very specific instructions on how to make the airport process as quick as possible.

We're booked to go away in Feb half term.

Our insurance is pretty cracking when it comes to Covid surprisingly, we booked it 2 months ago and basically it covers us under any eventuality.

I say book and go!

But I've flown several times now, including at the height of the pandemic last march, and it's slicker and easier now than pre-pandemic.

We had a recent holiday with Crystal, TUI skiing arm. When the French border got closed a few days before we were due to fly, they had our trip rerouted through Spain instead within 24hrs (to get to Andorra). I was amazed with the service really.

I don’t know about Tui but I had to cancel a holiday with EasyJet Holidays in November because I tested positive for covid 2 days before I was due to fly. They allowed me to switch it to a date of my choosing for just a £25 admin fee. The cost of the revised holiday was virtually the same, actually £12 cheaper, so I only paid £13 in the end. I was quite impressed with that. I did have cancellation insurance but didn’t need to use it, so I cancelled that too!

Who have you used for your insurance if you don't mind sharing.
