DDs leg - please have a look!

Sorry, I'm posting here as there's more traffic than the health boards.
I wonder if anyone has ever seen or experienced anything like this as our GP and me are at a loss!
DD is 16 and rides horses daily. She's had these blotches come up on her legs in the same place (outer top of the thigh). They start as itchy raised red circles then almost turn to bruises, then to broken skin, eczema like patches. Last year she had them at exactly this time of year. Our GP tried various creams then did blood tests but nothing showed. They disappeared, but have now just come back.
Thought I'd just try posting here on the chance someone might have seen or had something like it!
She's currently taking antihistamines and rubbing antihistamine cream on them.

They look like chilblains from your description.

Happycrocodile · 23/01/2022 22:18

Chillblains, she needs some warm full chaps or some thick tights under her jods x

Happycrocodile · 23/01/2022 22:19

Oh and moisturise the hell out of them, they are so uncomfortable! (Take it from someone who’s used to ride 10 a day through winter!)

I get these when I itch my legs too hard through jeans!

cungryhow · 23/01/2022 22:22

Reaction to strawmites, bedding, hay, haylage?

AdultCat · 23/01/2022 22:22

Oh! I hadn't even given chilblains a thought! She already wears thermals under her jodhpurs but I'll look for something extra!
So glad I posted, thank you!

Ringworm?

Rubyupbeat · 23/01/2022 22:24

I would see a dermatologist, there are so many things that could be.

ArnoldBee · 23/01/2022 22:28

Hubby has Lichen Planus if that's worth looming at.

CovoidOfAllHumanity · 23/01/2022 22:29

The pattern looks a bit like ringworm to me

hairymuffet · 23/01/2022 22:30

Your gp could send a picture to dermatology

comfortablyfrumpy · 23/01/2022 22:31

Chilblains?
I gather vit D can help.
Decathlon do some good winter jodhpurs.

Stonebridge · 23/01/2022 22:38

I bruise around itchy areas when I scratch/rub really hard esp, like someone said, through jeans. I assume it's because I'm pressing/ pushing the skin really hard

AffIt · 23/01/2022 22:41

I've had horses all my life, and suffer from cold urticaria.

The important thing is not to get cold in the first place, so layer up - long johns, then leggings, then riding tights or jodhs and full chaps (Mountain Horse do good thermal chaps which are nice to ride in).

Keep moving, drink hot drinks etc - basically, keep warm from the get go!

Tiger balm is good, too, but NEVER apply it to broken skin.

AffIt · 23/01/2022 22:44

If they only appear in cold weather, have disappeared and come back with no treatment and bloods showed nothing (they will have checked for fungal infections, which will have showed up ringworm), then chilblains is the most likely answer.

AdultCat · 23/01/2022 22:55

I definitely think it's chilblains! Just been looking online, seems really common in riders.
She's out for 12 hours a day in the cold so makes sense.. I've got lots of layers ready for tomorrow morning! Also just plastered Snow Fire on them 🤞🏻

Watch the Snow Fire, because it can burn (which I know seems roundabout, but there you go).

Make sure you don't use it on broken skin.

Aveena is good for where they've 'broken through' and then dried out (so when the skin become almost scaly).

AdultCat · 23/01/2022 23:15

Oh gosh, I didn't realise!
I'll get her to moisture them in the morning and layer up.
Thank you!
