Which yoghurt - why all fat-free?

A very boring thread I know and probably makes me sound an idiot, but hey.

I have just realised that pretty much all yoghurt is fat-free but quite high in sugar. This isn't what I want for my dc, who are 12 & 14 and very slim. What type do you get, preferably from Aldi/ Lidl? I do get the Greek one sometimes but don't always want the plain one.

A drizzle of honey or maple syrup and a small handful of dried fruit in full fat plain Greek/Greek style yogurt is probably lower sugar than any of the lower fat standard yogurts. Or make up something like apple puree with a bit of sugar and stir that in?

Second the Longley Farm ones, no idea how much sugar they have.

I bought the Oykos layered ones on offer in Morrisons yesterday, and the Aldi ones sound similar?

@Theregoesmyhomebirth

Both Aldi and Lidl do full fat flavoured ones. There's still a whack of sugar in them but they're so much nicer than fat free.
They do a reallllly nice lemon one

The Lidl Greek yogurt in the tub made to look like Total is great. I think it is £1-39 for 500g, and has a fat free version with a pink lid, full fat with blue.

We eat it with frozen blueberries swirled through, or a teaspoon of lemon curd.

Lidl Greek yoghurts are fab.:)

However if you wanna try something really healthy try buttermilk - it have a many health benefits.

They’re laden with sugar because a few years back there was a big push on fat in foods being unhealthy
So they removed the fat and replaced it with sugar

We don’t eat yoghurt anymore

The Collective yoghurts are amazing.

DinosApple · 24/01/2022 07:28

Always annoys me about fat free.
I'd forgotten about Greek yoghurt, thanks for the reminder!

greatape · 24/01/2022 08:26

My Lidl never has the nice yoghurt. It's only ever the Greek style stuff.

Dh gets Yeo valley strawberry and me and Dd2 have Total with bits added by us.

And Honey, and Salted Caramel, and Coconut..

Bonne Maman ones are good. The raspberry ones and apricot ones go down well in my house and they have a v short ingredient list.

We buy big tubs of Yeo Valley, or Activia. I love plain Greek yoghurt but my kids won't eat it sadly. It is really annoying that it's so hard to get multipacks of full fat yoghurt!

The Bon Maman fig yoghurt is amazing!

Agreed - they taste delicious!

This really annoys me. Fat free with a load of added crap just makes you hungry earlier. I buy Greek full fat and add fruit (and sometimes maple syrup - you don’t need a lot).

Snailhaterz2 · 24/01/2022 10:05

Full fat greek yoghurt from Lidl here, with a teaspoon of {home made) jam, some fruit, or a sprinkle of cinnamon.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 24/01/2022 10:11

I was buying DH coconut yoghurt but he's now freaked out about the saturated fat in it and his cholesterol levels.

Lovemusic33 · 24/01/2022 12:51

Agree that the collective yoghurts are amazing, they do a plain one too which I buy often. Much nicer that the fat free (laced with sugar or sweeteners) yoghurts.

I think we have it drummed into us that fat is bad for you when in fact we all need some fat, everything in moderation is ok, I would chose the fat over sugar any day.
