What’s causing severe hip pain?

I’m increasingly experiencing severe hip pain which means I cannot bear any weight on it. Usually has occurred after walking for a while but over the past few days it’s just happened after taking a few steps. Then, after resting for a while, it eases and I’m able to walk without any pain.
My DH says I should see the GP but I’m not sure as it’s not there all the time. Any ideas what it could be?

Bursitis?

I’ve heard of that, I’ll have a read up. Thanks.

I came on to suggest bursitis.

I had this and let it rumble on and on before finally going to go who said it was likely that. I had a lot of physio and then hit a plateau so had a steroid injection which took all the pain away.

I was warned that the injection would just alleviate the pains and not cure the bursitis itself. I have since found that a cushion between my legs when I sleep helps a lot.

Go and get it checked out. It could be a variety of things from benign to more serious. The only cancer symptom my dad has was a sore back (turns out he has stage four cancer with bone mets). Could be nothing but why not get it checked...you pay your taxes, use the service.

Thanks all, I’ll try to get an appointment with the GP. Wish me luck with that!

Why would you not see gp just because it's not there all the time? I'd suggest osteopath as well as go.

Gp

It could equally be something as insignificant as poor muscle tone in your glutes and legs which are causing an imbalance. See your GP or if you can afford it, see a private physio which will be much quicker.
