Ideas for taking friend’s daughter out for afternoon

Hi all, I am looking after my friend’s 8 year old daughter in a couple of weeks time and I am just wondering if anyone has any ideas for an enjoyable afternoon. Nothing too ‘big’ e.g zoo but something that will be fun.
Thank you!

Cinema, bowling, crazy golf, escape room, go ape style thing, climbing wall, afternoon tea, shopping and lunch/ tea out?

What kind of things is she into?

Surely it depends, a) on what you have access to and b) what she might regard as a treat.

I mean, if she lives in the depths of the country then lunch and cinema in a city might be fun. If on the other hand her usual life is busy, busy, busy with a hundred different activities, perhaps she’d prefer a relaxed afternoon of baking.

Beachcombing; walk in the countryside with a picnic; crazy golf.

My 8 year old just wants the park all the time, no matter what else is on offer! So, walk to the park, takeaway hot chocolates, back home for a film; low-key but fun?

P. S. I also agree with a PP... Baking is always lovely at that age, as they can really get stuck in. I get my kids to pick the extras to go in cakes etc and experiment.

My 7yo DD loves any opportunity to 'adult' so for her a real treat would be going to a coffee shop or something along the lines and sitting with a hot chocolate and slice of cake having a chat.

She also loves going to science museums or places like the space centre with lots of interactive displays.

Well that’s the thing. I seem to remember spending masses and masses of time with eight year olds in galleries and at theatre matinees, or concerts. As well as all the outdoor stuff. But they’re only fun if you have access to the fun venues - and we don’t know if the OP does.

Pottery painting and a hot choc at a café would be a real treat. Only snag is having to collect and deliver the final piece once fired.

Thanks for your suggestions all, really appreciate it, some good ideas there for me to think about.
She likes dogs but doesn’t have one herself so I was thinking about borrowing one for a walk but then worried it would be too boring for her! I could combine with the ideas above. We don’t live near a beach though unfortunately, or near easy access to a city.
Her dad bakes a lot and with her too so whilst I know she loves it (and is a good idea) I think I’ll leave that to him!
Thank you.
