Travel to Queensland, Australia

Can anyone tell me if Queensland have opened their borders to international travellers from outside Australia, or if this refers to Australians wishing to travel internationally?

I'm probably being thick, but find the wording pretty ambiguous. Can't phone the embassy until Monday! Thank you for any help.

Yes they have. As from today. And you don't need to quarantine when you get here unless you're unvaccinated.

Porridgeislife · 22/01/2022 11:35

No. You need to either do hotel quarantine for 14 days in Queensland, or spend 14 days in an ‘open’ state (eg NSW) before travelling to QLD.

You also can’t travel to Australia unless you are a citizen, PR or spouse/parent of the former - there’s no tourism at the moment.

I so hope you're right @coffy11 - think I might book flights then!

@coffy11 is right, QLD has scrapped hotel quarantine for fully vaccinated travellers but there is still no international tourism to Australia right now.

Huh ? First I've heard of it and I live there. Queensland is open to the world, no quarantine needed .

Yeah I'm not actually sure who can come, just that you don't need to quarantine anymore if you're vaccinated.

So 'fully vaccinated travellers' refers to Aussie citizens or the appropriate visa holders and their families?

Urgh.

DS is working on a 'skills' visa, so I assume that it wouldn't apply to us. Sad

I think it just means that people can arrive without quarantine like they have already been able to do eg in Sydney. However there are still only certain people approved for travel - citizens, permanent residents, close family of those and I think some specifically approved visas types eg for approved work. Not general tourists or visitors yet. Look on covid19.homeaffairs.gov.au for info.

You mustn’t pay too much attention then as I’ve been trying to get home for 2.5 years now to my folks in Brisbane.

It doesn’t seem so. Immediate family of PR/citizens according to Home Affairs.

Thank you all - sort of confirming what I feared. International travellers refers to those who are able to visit Australia under the original rules, not randomers like us who want to visit! Grin Disappointed but not surprised. Hopefully it won't be too long now.

Yep - still just immediate family of citizens and permanent residents.
