Would you ever go to a club night if it played music from your era?

And wasn’t aimed at students and young people being ironic?😂

I started going out in the mid 80’s when I was way underage and always have preferred the indie music so a themed 80’s night doesn’t really suit me. I really really loved the 90’s.i went to see Jarvis cocker the other week and most people were 40’s and above and the atmosphere was fab. If it had turned into a club night afterwards with loads of Brit pop it would’ve been amazing. Who knows what could’ve happened? 😂

Anyway, I just saw this advert for a club night in London and I thought what a good idea? The music lust looks fab www.fatsoma.com/e/9o05b0yk/age-against-the-machine-february-2022?utm_campaign=prom_ss&utm_medium=social&utm_source=dynamic who’s coming?😂

Have you been to feeling gloomy? You should go to hogan bingo. Loads of Aussies but I’m mid forties and loved it (was dreading it). Live music at the Dublin castle in Camden?

superram · 21/01/2022 21:19

Bogan bingo. I don’t mind the young ‘uns being ironic.

God yes, I so would.

If it were in Manchester, hells yes! All my 90s nights out were in The Fab Cafe & The Brick House. Indie all the way. But that playlist is amazing!

TragoCardboardCopper · 21/01/2022 21:35

Oh, that looks amazing!

A club I used to go to in the 00s always played 80s stuff to get everyone to go home - it was the best bit of the night for me!

PermanentTemporary · 21/01/2022 21:36

Yeah there's a local dj who does a regular Indie Disco night at a local bar. 80s/90s indie only. Always packed, riotous. They should sell Voltarol at the bar for our knees though 😬

Cherryana · 21/01/2022 21:39

I would. I organised a whole birthday party for myself just so I could dance all night to music that I liked - because I miss those days!!

thesunwillout · 21/01/2022 21:52

This is so timely I've been having lots of 1990's coincidences the last 2 days.
Finding old photos in a bookcase clear out, playing music today based on what singles I remember having.

I watched an episode of something on iPlayer from 1996 and it just looked so dated but familiar.

My daughter is a student and would kill for a club night of anything bar modern stuff.
I honestly thought there would be some 90's or 80's nights on in the city she lives in.
Such a shame. Those nights were the best.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 21/01/2022 21:58

We used to have a local 80s/90s indie club night and it was just brilliant, but Covid seems to have killed it. I really miss going dancing.

musicalfrog · 21/01/2022 22:00

Most clubs do play older music because the new stuff isn't really dancey (or very good tbh). It's just that most older people are too snobby to set foot inside a club these days!

NoToLandfill · 21/01/2022 22:01

Wayhey I'm in!!!

musicalfrog · 21/01/2022 22:01

Star Shaped is another one you should look out for if you like 90s indie music.

EachandEveryone · 21/01/2022 22:37

Yes but this one is for over 30’s only😃. Although that might reduce its punters tbh.

God yes! We're watching Simple Minds at the moment. Blimey it takes me back!

Musicalmaestro · 22/01/2022 01:41

Yes! What a great idea!

parchedjanuary · 22/01/2022 02:28

It's everything from the 60s to the 90s and even a bit of the noughties! I'm not sure about this at all....

I was 20 in 1997. So a 90s night I would most definitely enjoy.

But I have no interest in 60s or 70s music. 80s is okay, would remind me of primary school, but not something I would ever want to have a big night out with!

Now this particular night you have suggested.... I imagine that the clientele will be in the age range of my 80 year old grandmother who was 20 in 1960, to my 30 year old niece who was 20 in 2010.

So no I wouldn't be interested! It actually seems more like a student night!

parchedjanuary · 22/01/2022 02:37

I don't like the flyer either!! Sorry I'm just being honest...

..."get your ageing joints here!", like wtf!! I'm in my 40s, my joints are absolutely fine darling 😆!

Middle age take over?? What??! I think this club night was almost definitely designed by a team of people in their 20s ( because everyone else seems really really old when you're in your 20s!). This almost seems like something that they would come up with on The Apprentice 😆!!

I won't be attending myself, but I will definitely let grandma and her achy old joints know!

SantaClawsServiette · 22/01/2022 02:52

Even when I was a student I used to prefer to go to the club dancing for retro night. Grunge was never the greatest music, not for a steady diet anyway. Give me some Stevie Wonder any day.

And yes, I do occasionally have the urge to go dancing and would be much more likely to if it wasn't awful post-2000 music.

Around here, you can actually find that at legion clubs. And, they start early and finish around 9 so you can get to bed at a reasonable time.
