Feeling really sad about Meat Loaf dying

Don't really know why. I am 50 and he's kind of always just been there. Bat Out Of Hell straddled the album charts and public consciousness for years when I was growing up. I didn't feel a personal connection to what he was doing at the time very much but whenever one of his songs comes on the radio I'm there, word perfect and shouting along. It's like he's in my apprehension and I feel sad he's gone.

@ItsNotUnusualToBe

Similar age here. I think I listened to meatloaf a lot as an angsty , drama queen teen and the music stirs up a little part of me that’s still in there somewhere. I’ve forgotten who I used to be and I miss me. See! Angsty!
Yes perfectly said....I couldn't work out why I felt so sad...my youth...my life....memories argh

This is lovely electricliterature.com/its-time-to-let-meat-loaf-into-your-embarrassing-little-heart/

"Surely we all remember when “baby you’re the only thing in this whole world/ that’s pure and good and right” was a way we were willing to feel about someone. I think that we should all aim to hit the highway like a battering ram on a silver-black phantom bike; to tell our loved ones that they’re the only thing in the whole world that’s pure and good and right; to occupy the human spirit utterly, with all the messiness that entails, and all the pain."

@BoofTheFloof

I was really sad. Even sadder when I realised he was anti vax, anti mask mandates etc (despite being large, over 70 and with asthma ) and died of covid. What a waste.
That's a really low shot. That'll learn him eh Hmm

Did you see his death certificate?

The BBC4 documentary is fantastic. So sad to learn about his childhood and his relationship with Jim Steinman. Can't believe I'd forgotten he recorded Dead Ringer for Love.

Me too - 50, and feel the same. His music was the soundtrack to my teenage and young adult years. He has a beautiful voice.

I'm late 20s and I even feel quite sad about his death. I grew up with his music as my dad loves him. His songs are always my 'go to' for cleaning the house

Karenetta · 21/01/2022 22:28

@noblegiraffe agree. His lyrics were sincere, vulnerable, he wore his heart on his sleeve.

(Even when he was crashing off balconies etc.)

I’ve shed a tear today.

I’m surprised at how sad I’ve felt about it. It’s made me think a lot about my dad and how much I miss him. Back into hell came out when my parents split up and I started with my dad and he played it so much.
