Yr 1 school reading book

Just wanting to sound something out to see I'm overreacting...

DS(5) is in year 1 at school and the book he's brought home today is about 2 kids and a toddler going to the park.

At the park they attract some ducks with their cake and then a man approaches them to take a photo of all of them. They let him and everything obviously works out well because it's a kids book.

Am I being odd in thinking we don't really want to put the message across that it's okay for someone to approach you in a park and take your photo?

I don't know whether to mention to the school or whether to chalk it up to being an overprotective mother who's tired Smile

If use it as an opportunity to speak to your child about safety. But I agree - odd story.

I agree it's an odd story. I'd just use it an an opportunity to go over 'stranger danger' with your child and how random people taking photos of you is never okay!

I'm a teacher. I would appreciate your flagging this to me so I could check the book and decide whether to take it out of circulation. At my school, children choose books from a large selection and I havent read most of them. I've had parents tell me that books have pages missing, or questionable content and I've had the chance to take them out of circulation. Often books are quite old so may not be so acceptable today.
