for your DH?

Any ideas would be welcome, at this rate he’s going to get a box of chocolates.

F too! He's so hard to buy for (mine that is)

I got my DH a lovely leather travel style wallet from Aspinals with his initials on it.

Think it all depends on budget, anything from a nice watch / tickets to the football or event he would like even up to a long weekend away. We hope for a visit to Vegas for our 40th as both in the same year

Rina66 · 21/01/2022 12:39

I got mine a Leica camera (it was 10 years ago so before phone cameras became amazing!) and a dartboard birthday cake for the bullseye! He's 60 this year and I think it's going to an upgraded iPad with the pen.

Other fairly timeless gifts over the years have been designer leather weekend bag, good watch, personalised number plate, Barbour jacket, leather satchel type laptop bag, Samsonite luggage, Burberry scarf, city breaks.....we've been together 30 years so there's been a few milestones!

Forgot- also had an arty drawing done of our house - just went in to the study and saw it!
As a smaller gift, a key ring made with an old penny from 1962 (his birth year).

Does he like an occasional drink? My go to for any "0th" is to buy whisky, wine, port etc that add up to his age. So I might have a 10-year-old scotch, a 12-year-old port, an 8-year-old rum and 4 different 5-year-old wines. 10+12+8+5+5+5+5=50!

You can do it budget or blowout in terms of cost, (on the cheap you buy miniatures not full bottles) and it can be fun finding the right items and getting them to add up.

i got DH membership of Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club. He is not materialistic and loved it.

I bought my brother a steam powered model engine from Mamod for his 50th. He loved it.

DH is 50 at the end of this month and music/gigs are our "thing". I've ordered a handmade picture of his favourite artist from someone I know who makes them out of cut-up beer cans - she's just messaged to say it's on the way and looks amazing

Coldfingerstoes · 21/01/2022 18:12

Thanks for the ideas everyone. I’d love to get him a watch, but it’s such a big purchase he should choose it himself.

Got my husband Lego millennium falcon but that's a bit niche

TheOnlyMrsW · 22/01/2022 08:30

@Quitelikeacatslife DH would love a Lego falcon but we don't have space!

reluctantbrit · 22/01/2022 09:24

DH got a Mont Blanc fountain pen, he wanted one for ages, loves writing with ink.

He also got a new lokomotive for his model set up (joined gift from friends) and a beergarden style wooden bench and table from my parents.

SpellitwithaY · 22/01/2022 09:30

I've booked a break at centre parks for all of us. Still need a pressie or 2 for the day though....

Whichcatthatcat · 22/01/2022 09:31

I'm 50 in a few weeks. I've asked for tickets to do Go Ape for me and the dc!

I really don't need more 'stuff' . So how about an experience rather than an object.

gingercat02 · 22/01/2022 09:47

My DH's 50th (2020 🤣) I bought him a promise of a trip to Iceland obviously we haven't been yet, hopefully this year! His brother bought 50 year old wine. Friends gave him good whiskey. Depends what he likes. We like experiences for big birthday. We went to the F1 for mine and I'm taking DM to London for her 80th

VanCleefArpels · 22/01/2022 09:52

I did a gift to represent each decade of his life - so for example a t shirt with birth year(60’s) an old favourite board game (70’s), tickets to a gig of a favourite band (80’s) dinner at the place we had a first date (90’s) and something to go with his current hobby (00’s)

romany4 · 22/01/2022 11:08

I bought my DH a 30 minute helicopter flight lesson.
He absolutely loved it.
It was something he'd always wanted to do
