Giving up caffeine & fizzy drinks

Has anyone given up caffeine and felt better for it? Quit drinking fizzy drinks and noticed any differences?

I consumed way too much cherry pepsi max and cold brew coffee plus the occasional energy drink. I quit drinking them cold turkey on Monday. I have had a terrible headache since. The cravings, especially for an ice cold pepsi, have been intense.

I have ADHD and not sure if being caffeine free will help me or make me feel worse.

I'm now 10 days with no caffeine and I can barely stay awake past 8PM!

Headaches have lessened though which is nice.

I'm not sure if I feel any better for it though.

Another ADHDer here. I have tried to give up caffeine a number of times and find that my productivity goes does, my anxiety goes up, and my sleep doesn't get any better (although I do feel tired all the time). I try not to overdo it now because I know it can't be good for me physically, but I do have caffeine every day a couple of time. It makes me feel happier overall.

What I meant is there is a halfway point. I understand the all or nothing type thinking, but having a cold brew or Pepsi max a couple of times a day but drinking water alongside should have the same positive effect on your headache reduction. It's when you drink only or mostly those drinks it leads to headaches. It's trying to find the sweet spot.

Good poiints, Notso. I'm just worried that if I allow myself one then I will spiral.

I will get to the 2 week point and reasses I think.

I've reduced from only drinking caffeinated fizzy drinks to just having one in the morning (get horrible headaches without it). It has definitely made a difference to my sleep and reduced anxiety but has also impacted my work - not in a good way, I really struggle to concentrate (I also have ADHD).

I gave up caffiene for a few months and once the initial headache goes I felt better for it. I was at the point where I needed caffiene just to feel normal. I have a little caffiene now I make a little pot of white or green tea in the morning and top it up when I want a drink. I use the same leaves so caffiene levels reduce through the day.

I've cut down. I was drinking 10 to 12 cans of sugar free fizzy a day.
Never ever squash, water. From 1st drink to With 1 cup of tea before bed.

I've now halved the fizzy sometimes even less. If I cut out completely I wouldnt even function.

In fact in my early 20s to 30s I'd drunk up to 20 day one after the other like a chain smoker but dizzy drinker

Wow, Foam, do you feel better for it?

Green tea sounds like a nice option if I do want caffeine. I don't think that would cause spiraling because I don't like it as much as I like coffee Grin

I do drink a decent amount of water, 2L a day, sometimes a bit more. I just like drinking I think... Always sipping something.

I don't really like green tea either :) I mean it's ok but I don't love it. I need to have regular hot drinks though and I think it's much better than regular coffee.

FoamBurst · 27/01/2022 22:39

Yes I do.

I want to try other drinks. Teas etc.

I think the only time I drink water is if had a take away or a particularly salty dinner. And it has to be bottled.

I need to drink less fizz more water. Or even squash
