Big baby, bath time, help?

Anyone else struggling with humongous babies?😂Ok so he's 4 months and in 6-9,9-12 clothing (I'm going to add he's just huge in height really, dads 6'4 and I'm 5'10).

He's out grown his baby bath and is close to outgrowing his bath support seat, I don't fancy doing super shallow water and supporting his head as it will break my back. He's also too young for the sitting up bath seats. Any ideas/experiences? I have no clue what to do soon

Thanks in advance

Bath together

Verbena87 · 20/01/2022 20:38

One of us would just get in with him. He loved it and it made things so much less back-achy.

Failing this, kitchen sink baths are at a much better height for your back than bath baths, but he might still be too little.

LittleBearPad · 20/01/2022 20:38

Put him in the sink (bathroom or better kitchen) until he can sit up safely

Less knackering on your back too

We have a non slip bath mat that helps. With a pretty shallow bath.

Twinwoo · 20/01/2022 20:40

Yep bath together, my son is a similar size and it's the best way. He's started 'swimming ' in the bath with me supporting him!

Oh I use a light up duck and dim the lights to try and make it more relaxing! It's always rather mad though!

HerRoyalHappiness · 20/01/2022 20:40

I had a huge baby too and I bathed with him. Much easier than trying to lean over the bath to support him

babysnowman · 20/01/2022 20:42

Shnuggle do a toddler bath, we use it for our 2yo as we only have a shower.

Shapiro · 20/01/2022 20:43

Kitchen sink or what about one of these -

OOS there but available on Amazon etc

underneaththeash · 20/01/2022 20:45

We just used to put a small amount of water in the bath and lie then in there. He's not going to drown if you're there next to him.

DS2 loved it so much (and was very fat) and used to splash his little legs around......his nickname is still bath!

LaTomatina · 20/01/2022 20:46

Bathing with him is definitely the simplest option. Alternatively, you can use a laundry basket (the plastic kind, with big holes in) instead of a bath seat, to kind of prop him up. Sounds strange, but worked for us. Obviously you have to be within arm's reach and attentive at all times, but you would anyway with a baby.

babysnowman · 20/01/2022 20:47

Ah, just looked at the spec, the toddler bath is only recommended for when they are confidently sitting

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 20/01/2022 20:52

Kitchen sink. I had a 9lb 7oz (all in length) baby and the kitchen sink saved my back!

AuntyMabelandPippin · 20/01/2022 20:54

Just lie him down in a shallow bath. He'll love it.

gemloving · 20/01/2022 20:54

I literally just lied mine into the big bath with not a lot of water in it. He loved it. Just made sure the ears were dry after x

Mumdiva99 · 20/01/2022 20:56

Are you sure he's outgrown the baby bath....mine used to use it as an paddling pool when they could get themselves in and out of it. ....

Just put it on the kitchen table and bath him in there. Yes hold him, but as it's raised up then it shouldn't hurt your back. Or use a stool next to the table.

cherrypie66 · 20/01/2022 20:57

Kitchen sink !

Dexy1957 · 20/01/2022 21:02

Definitely kitchen sink x

123feraverto · 20/01/2022 21:07

We always did a shallow bath or the came in with me
More often the shallow bath though

Muststopeating · 20/01/2022 21:09

The shnuggle baby bath is the best thing ever. Newborns can practocally use it unsupported from day1 (obviously don't let them but it is a life saver for your back).

They do grow out of it by about 6 months so the toddler version recommended above is genius!

(I hate kitchen sink baths for babies that can't support themselves but can wriggle... find them terrifying).

Bloatstoat · 20/01/2022 21:35

We used the munchkin duck bath suggested above once they were better at sitting (not full sitting balance, about 6 months ish). I also have a big sponge base for them to lie on, so I fill the bath a few inches and they lie on the sponge. It's like this www.amazon.co.uk/Aiming-Non-slip-Anti-skid-Bathtub-Newborn/dp/B07J661C31/ref=asc_df_B07J661C31/?hvlocphy=1006567&hvlocphy=1006567&linkCode=df0&hvptwo&hvptwo&psc=1&hvnetw=g&hvnetw=g&hvadid=375430542606&hvadid=375430542606&hvpone&hvpone&hvlocint&hvlocint&ref&hvpos&hvpos&hvdev=m&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl&hvdvcmdl&hvqmt&hvqmt&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&hvtargid=pla-804080732145&hvtargid=pla-804080732145&hvrand=9478112188644456405&hvrand=9478112188644456405&adgrpid=76507802843 Mine were all 98th centile so I understand the dilemma!

Danikm151 · 20/01/2022 21:43

I had one of these. There’s a blow bit inside for when baby is smaller then deflate it when they’re bigger.

Big baby, bath time, help?
PiesNotGuys · 20/01/2022 21:52

I’d get a bigger baby bath, and you don’t have to use a baby bath in tha actual bathroom.

When my dc1 was young I didn’t have heating/hot water at home so I used to put the baby bath on the floor next to the fire in the front room and fill with cold water, top up with boiling from the kettle and sit next to them/kneel next to them/eventually leave them to splash about a bit.

They were bathed in the baby bath until 2-3 sometimes that way even after I got heating/hot water because I only had to heat the front room to keep them warm when they got out.

MouseholeCat · 20/01/2022 22:00

I just get in with my baby, it's much easier that way. At first I would get my DH to pass her in/grab her after but now I just carry her in and out myself.

stormelf · 20/01/2022 22:07

I don't have experience with big babies as mine have always been tiny but we have a bath bloom flower shaped bath pillow that baby lies on in the bath. It's been great with my three
