How much did your driveway cost

And which material did you go for?!

I need a 2-3 car drive sorting out desperately.

Currently looking at tarmac (possibly ugly?) or block paving. Which have you got and do you like it?

Would love gravel but DH thinks it will drive him crazy flying allover the place Grin

We don’t want resin or imprinted concrete because next door have concrete that’s cracked and pools water and resin is too expensive for my pathetic budget.

We have a really long drive, that fits 5 cars in length, and it was all gravel. It used to wear away and we'd have to mark topping it up. It was a pain and didn't look that great. We needed it sorting because dh was buying a motorbike and wanted to be able to get it in the garage easier. But didn't want to spend a fortune! We got it partially flagged, and then gravel in between, it wasn't very expensive, I think less than 2k for everything. It doesn't look mind blowingly amazing but it's neat and serves its purpose.
We are looking at resin in the next few years.

I've had a gravel driveway for over 20 years, it tends to spill over a bit onto the path between the drive and the road and I brush it back periodically (couple of times a year).
It's no good for pushing prams on.
Weeds do grow in it, part of mine of quite bad but its due to the totally unkempt garden next door and I'm attacking it with weedkiller. I also have some that grows grass patches which I can't seem to totally get rid of, but rats where there doesn't seem to be much of a foundation.
The bit nearer my garden was a nursery for verbena seedlings last year, I could have pulled them up but left them yo grow and then transplanted them!
I had it extended about 10 years ago and had some new gravel added. It could probably do with some more now and I might do that this year and just rake it over.

Overall I'm quite happy with it.

I have a driveway that was part grass a few years back & the rest was block paved. I paid a company to dig up the grass which was easily half the size of my drive & have it block paved to match the rest. Paid about £4k from memory. Looks lovely. 👍🏻

Gravel with paving about 4 - 6 feet at the entrance or a mix or paving and gravel, looks best.

Tarmac is so ugly and paving not much better.

Gravel with paving at the entrance is definitely my favourite.

Ours was 6k about four years ago, we have room for 3 cars beside each other and another at an angle. It is still looking like new today. We are about to do the back of the house and that will be 10K :(

I’ve had mine finished just today! Block paving for 2 cars with extra space. Cost £5700. Removed the existing wall and gravel, flower beds and old concrete drive. Added a concrete base and new doorstep. Really happy. Just need to work out how to reverse up without ceasing into the house!

@Maneandfeathers

Thanks all of you!

@loopylindi maybe next door just got a rubbish job. Theirs is horribly cracked everywhere! How much did it cost if you don’t mind me asking?

@vickibee how are you finding it? Does it fly about when you drive on and off?!

About £3000 but that was some years ago. I think we were extremely lucky with the contractor, as we went to see a previous job of his. The householder said the the contractor had laid one section, then gone home at the end of the day. Overnight it rained, and when he came back to the house there were several puddles on what he'd laid the day before - so he dug it up and re-did it!! Ironically, we moved 11yrs ago and our 'new' home also had an imprinted drive. There's nothing wrong with it that a clean and re-coat wouldn't sort out.

Thanks everyone!

Looks like gravel may be the only real option financially, really not sure about it though!

About £7000 two years ago but so worth it

We’ve got gravel on most of the drive. Personally, I love it! It does eventually disappear to a thin layer, but another 20 tonnes later it’s back to thick and lovely. Frozen gravel always makes me smile as it’s lovely and crunchy sounding underfoot, and I like the way it looks the same pretty much all year round. Grin

Agadorsparticus · 21/01/2022 16:41

We laid gravel ourselves on our driveway a few years back. It cost £800 for materials. It looked great when we were done. Don't scrimp on the groundsheet layer to stop the weeds.

Agadorsparticus · 21/01/2022 16:43

We were quoted £2k to have it done.

DustyMaiden · 21/01/2022 17:08

Block paving and steps and drainage 3k room for one car, townhouse.

Maneandfeathers · 22/01/2022 14:30

Had some quotes today…

£5000 and £4100 for block paving from 2 separate companies.
Gravel £2700 and £2500.

DH said for the sake of the extra £1.5k block paving would be better and last longer but it’s still £1500 extra for something to park a car on Blush
