Anyone been to the Titanic Exhibition in London?

titanicexhibitionlondon.com/

I’ve been keeping an eye out on this as they started selling tickets before the location was revealed. We don’t live near London but we’re visiting in Feb, so I really needed to know which area it would be in first, to see if it was viable.

I’ve just remembered to check the site again after the Christmas madness and the weekend we visit London is completely sold out. 🙄 Drat!

So I’m just wondering what the exhibition is like to see if it’s worth making another trip down another time. I know these kind of things often don’t live up to the hype and I feel they’ve definitely tried to hype it up with the “secret location” so I’m slightly suspicious!

Hopeful bump!

It's apparently at Surrey Quays - almost next door to Canada Water station which is both an Overground Station and an Underground station (Jubilee Line). Not much else in the area (small shopping centre) but fairly easy to get to from central London by tube.

Legoisthebest · 21/01/2022 13:18

I don't know if the exhibition is any good though. Sorry.

PurpleCarpets · 21/01/2022 13:38

Given that the exhibition cannot contain anything actually from the Titanic, it will just be information about it. You might as well read the Wikipedia entry in the comfort of your living room.

WheelieBinPrincess · 21/01/2022 13:41

That’s a ridiculous sentiment @PurpleCarpets.

The Titantic museum in Belfast is brilliant. I know it won’t be like that but honestly, it’s silly to say you might as well stay at home and read Wikipedia. Or sad.

EilyAndStephen · 24/01/2022 17:55

I’m sure the kids would be enthralled with me doing that @PurpleCarpets!

I think it’s more of an “experience” with an audio tour and visuals. I was going to show them the film beforehand to whip up some interest.

I checked back on the website today and more tickets have been released so we’re booked in. I’ll update this post for anyone else interested.

@WheelieBinPrincess Funnily enough, we’re planning a trip to NI soon, so if it’s crap, we’ll have to go to the Belfast one!

I went to this when it was in Sydney. It was really good - they do have some original artifacts as well as really good recreations of things like the grand staircase and an upper class cabin. You also get given a passenger's ID with your ticket and at the end of the tour you can find out what happened to them. From memory I survived :-)

Animum2 · 24/01/2022 18:16

I've been to the one in Belfast and that was very good, plus Canary Wharf is that far for me only 15 mins on the tube so I might go

Animum2 · 24/01/2022 18:17

Canada water even

Igloo71 · 24/01/2022 18:19

If it’s by the same folk who organised the Van Gogh event, I’d save your money and do a West End show instead

User2638483 · 24/01/2022 18:24

This pissed me right off because of the repeated Facebook ads that I kept getting, which tbh gave me a scammy feeling about ti!

EilyAndStephen · 24/01/2022 20:37

@User2638483 There’s something that doesn’t quite feel right to me too but I can’t put my finger on it! I’ll definitely report back!

@Igloo71 We’re going to see a show too.

OP posts:
User2638483 · 24/01/2022 20:41

I know what you mean! There’s no rational reason that lots of Facebook advertising equals scam but I just didn’t like the feel of it

User2638483 · 24/01/2022 20:41

And I don’t really think it’s a scam… but maybe just a bit crap.

But happy to be corrected by anyone who’s been!

MissyB1 · 24/01/2022 20:46

Yes I m getting the FB ads too. I was going to ask on here about it, so thanks Op.

Me and DH loved the Van Gogh event as did everyone I know who went
Legoisthebest · 24/01/2022 21:12

I quite like the look of this Titanic exhibition and it's only a 20 minute train journey from me so I am quite tempted.
What a strange think to say - "see a West End Show instead". Surely if the OP wanted to go to the theatre she would do that. She was asking about an exhibition. A completely different thing. It's like saying "don't bother going to watch football at Wembley - go to the Chelsea Flower Show instead" Hmm

I was looking into going to this as a friend lives a 10 min walk away so could visit her too and they offer NHS discount which makes it quite reasonable. But like others keep getting ads on FB which look a bit spammy. Would be very interested to hear what it's like.
OverByYer · 24/01/2022 21:20

I went to the Titanic exhibition in Florida and we really enjoyed it as my son was a bit obsessed with the Titanic at the time.
It is 'an experience' the one we we went too had actors in costume who talked you through the different rooms and how the night it sank panned out. There were recreations of the interiors and pieces from the ship wreck such as china, furniture , personal effects; some really good special effects. I found it really interesting.
I have also been to the Titanic museum in Belfast and that was good too.

Igloo71 · 24/01/2022 21:28

@mydogisthebest I just felt that a projection in a room didn’t represent good value for money when events covering a broader experience are price comparable. For instance, a few weeks later we went to the Windsor Great Park Christmas lights, cost less money and provided hours of entertainment. The Van Gogh event didn’t even include the VR experience. Adding an extra in that way just felt a bit scammy to me.

ChessieFL · 12/02/2022 13:24

Have you been to this yet @EilyAndStephen? I’m just wondering if it’s worth booking.

onemouseplace · 12/02/2022 13:28

I'm glad other people found the FB ads spammy as well - I was initially interested in both this and the Van Gogh one - but the advertising has actually managed to completely put me off both.

meli20x · 08/03/2022 17:41

Me and my partner regularly go to museums and this has genuinely been the worst place we have visited and travelled a far distance for. London is hard enough at it is, but there are no clear directions to this warehouse consisting of black curtains and blown up Titanic photos on the walls, that you can look at on Google. There were only a few objects actually from the Titanic and from the people that survived, such as a ring and a pair of children's shoes, otherwise all the objects are mainly from the White Star Line or the Olympia ship. Save your money and go to an actual museum. Me and my partner genuinely burst out laughing during the exhibition when we realised we had been scammed and how bad the whole thing is we travelled so far for. We read the reviews and chose to ignore it and give it a go, we really won't do that again.
