Isolating with two young DCs...what can I order to make life easier?

Single parent isolating for at least the next five days with two DS (7 and 11). We have internet and a garden which I intend to make use of. What can I order (I'm thinking Amazon Prime) that can make life slightly more bearable over the next few days? Toys, games booze etc. Can't spend big bucks but it would be such a relief if I could find something to keep them occupied for an hour or so to allow me to doze off the covid.

We are semi rural so I can't even cheer myself up with the thought of a nice Deliveroo curry one evening Sad

Exploding kittens, Dobble, Labyrinth games.

Among Us or Adopt Me or whatever trendy game they like- colouring books from Amazon.

Box of cake mix and Betty Crocker icing.

Give them all the screen time though, just do what you can.

Echoesandsilence · 19/01/2022 20:53

Are they into those match attax or anything similar?
I'm in the same situation at the minute and ordered 8yo new cards. He happily spent hours today going through them and re organising them.

Do they have a switch or similar? If so you could get them a game. As long as youre not looking for new releases you can get them quite cheap.

Echoesandsilence · 19/01/2022 20:54

Or if they like reading - some new books?

air drying clay we didnt use this brand, but did have similar.

Sticker book probably too old for the 7 yr old, but I'm sure you could also find something for them.

Books, screens, puzzle books, jigsaws.
Basically, low mess if you want to doze.
Hope you're feeling better soon.

Cheap pop up tent and a disposable bbq, let them put the tent up 8n the garden, fill it with blankets/cushions or whatever from the house, Xmas battery operated lights or torches in there. They can use it as a den during the day. Use the bbq to make s'mores or wrap a couple of bananas in foil and cook those with some chunks of chocolate shoved under the skin then squirty cream and sprinkles to make a kind of warm sundae.

SorryPardonWhat · 19/01/2022 21:33

Yes to cheap pop up tent but I'd let them set up camp in the lounge / living room / spare room. This will take ages, transporting pillows and toys and setting up beds etc. On holiday but at home! And they can watch a film while on camp!

eleanorplease · 19/01/2022 22:27

Oooh the tent is a genius idea!

Also Disney Plus!
My kids loved Usbourne sticker books
Marbles?
Some kind of subuteo type game if they’re into football

ldontWanna · 19/01/2022 22:52

Tablets if they have them. As long as they're quiet and leave you in peace.. fuck it. Bonus points if they access anything set by the school like TTRockstar or reading eggs or whatever.

Pegasussnail · 19/01/2022 22:55

We are isolating here. We played monopoly today and cards.

I decluttered kitchen drawers. Again Hmm
But i let them have a bit too much youtube ans nintendo while I dosed with Downton Abbey

ronconcoke · 19/01/2022 23:01

Lego? My 11 yo DS recently got back into it when we were all isolating. An old fashioned game like Cluedo?

Merrilymerrilymerrily · 19/01/2022 23:08

Mosaic sticker book. Craft kits.
Card games - Blink and Uno
Smart Games are great - the levels get harder as you go. We love Rush Hour and the Fox and Rabbit one. Penguin was much harder.

Get them to follow drawing tutorials on you tube. Art Hub for kids is great. There are also painting tutorials you can find (if getting the paints out is not too stressful!)

coraka · 19/01/2022 23:11

Do they play together? Mine are younger but play doh and lego sets take up a lot of time for my 6 YO.

GTAlogic · 19/01/2022 23:14

I don't know but dh & I ordered some cakes to be delivered from a cake shop on JustEat and they were delicious!

GTAlogic · 19/01/2022 23:16

Actually though, in all seriousness, my dc play together well with Lego. I also bought a small polymer clay kit after watching people on YouTube making things with it and both dc, 9 & 10, spent a happy hour or so making all sorts of things.

Hedonism · 19/01/2022 23:17

I'm also isolating with a 7yo and 11yo this week. I'm not a single parent but dh has just started a new job so can't slack off and help! Plus I'm still trying to wfh.

So far this week we have completed the school work set (this is a minor miracle), sawn up some scrap wood and had a bonfire, done some drawing, and watched a LOT of TV. They have both also facetimed with their friends after school.

I love the tent idea, I might set them on that tomorrow while I try and do some work.

dynamitegirl · 19/01/2022 23:19

If they have tablets and willing grandparents/other relatives, then Monopoly and Cluedo can be played online. It can be a bit tricksy setting it up the first time or perhaps that's just my parents but then it's straightforward and can buy you a couple of hours. We relied on this a lot when home schooling and DH and I were working and I'd make sure there were some nice biscuits or some chocolate or something in a random cupboard and then, at a suitable moment, the grandparent (having been briefed in advance) would tell them where it was and they could eat it.
What about TV series? Yours are the same age as mine were in lockdowns #1 and #2 and we watched the bleeped version of Taskmaster which they found hilarious and I also enjoyed. We also got into Dragons Den & the Apprentice (language can be a bit ripe). More recently, Clarkson's Farm & Top Gear (again, language - although some of the innuendo will probably go straight over their heads). Junior Bake Off or similar?
DS and I both had Covid recently. The better days were when we were both under the weather and curled up on the sofa watching TV & films together. The worst ones were when I was really feeling poorly and he was absolutely fine and getting very bored!
Remember school should be setting them some work so that should keep them occupied for a few hours

eleanorplease · 20/01/2022 08:31

Thanks all.

My DC hate crafty stuff so that's a no go Angry

Schoolwork is getting done. I have got the Lego out this morning and we have Encanto on the tv.

About to start browsing Amazon for tents Grin
