I'm a first time mum as of 24 hours ago and struggling with what to dress our baby in!
The temperature of the room is 20 degrees and I'm really stuck on what to dress her in. So worried on her overheating or being too coldSad

nappy, vest, long-sleeved onesie. blanket. no hat. she'll be fine :-)

I'm here with baby number 4, all tucked up next to me in bed. We're co sleeping in a 20 degree room and he's wearing a long sleeve vest and a 2.5 tog sleeping bag. He's warm and happy.
If he feels chilly in the night I'll cover him with a blanket too.
Cold babies wake up and cry. It's hot babies that are the real issue.

Ditto last post.
We have our little one in a vest, 2.5tog sleeping bag and a light blanket, room is between 18-20 degrees:

You will know if she is too cold, just feel her chest.
Don’t go by her hands/feet.

Congratulations mum, you’ll be doing a great job X

Nothing to add as I would do what pp have done but congratulations OP on your new baby Flowers you're going to do brilliantly Smile

If it were me I would go with a short sleeve vest under a long sleeve vest with a cellular blanket in a single layer over the bottom half tucked in the bottom of the cot and make sure their feet are right at the bottom so they can't wiggle down under the blanket. The temp is only likely to go down at night so this is where I would start and possible double fold the blanket if they are too chilly.

The general rule is they will cry if they are too cold but they do not cry if they are too hot. But with a room temp of 20 you're not going to overheat them in what I've listed above. If their hands are a bit chilly that's ok, the best way to feel their temp to check they are ok is to feel their chest or the back of their neck and you can tell if they are too warm as they will be hot and sweaty.

Both my newborns liked being swaddled for the first few weeks after birth and then we transitioned into sleeping bags after that.

You'll get the hang of it quickly, good luck!

20 is quite warm so their swaddle or sleeping bag and a long sleeve vest. I used to go by this chart when mine was little:

When I had my winter baby she was put to bed in a sleeveless vest, sleep suit with fold over sleeve mittens. I swaddled her tightly in one cellular blanket then tucked her into the bottom of the crib with a second cellular blanket. We started to use a sleeping bag at around 12 weeks.

Congratulations on your new arrival.
