Stomach always upset - TMI - scared

I’ve had an upset tummy for weeks, if not months . Every single time I go to the loo . I get cramping/dizziness after eating along with cold sweats and feeling faint which inevitably turns into running into the loo for an hour or so - always loose and a feeling after I’ve gone that I still need to go .

I’ve been putting it down to stress, period pain, lactose intolerance but I’m not sure .

I’ve been told I’ve got adhesions on my colon seen on an MRI but no one knew why .

Been getting bleeding, sometimes heavyish like a period but I’ve assumed that’s piles as it’s always after I go .

I’m too overweight, not losing . Crap diet . 30 and no family history thay I know of . Tested for coealic disease years ago and nothing .

I’m absolutely terrified of seeing the doctor in case they want to examine me - my doctor’s male - there’s only a woman in once a week . Suspect they’ll say it’s stress or IBS but I’m not sure .

I’ve tried buscopan to no difference .

I don’t know what to do, it’s bloody painful and I’m finding I’m exhausted/dizzy much of the time . It puts me off going out in case it happens while I’m out - other day I had to find a public toilet 3 times in half an hour .

I think I have to tell my GP but I don’t know how - I cringe at the thought, stupid as it sounds !

My friends’ kids both have colitis and when she described their symptoms or rang a bell, but her kids are exceptionally underweight which doesn’t match me at all .

Honestly GP will be well used to hearing about symptoms like these and you really must seek help.

Please call Gp now for urgent appointment, they probably answer the phone till 6 x

If your GP surgery has a female Dr in once a week then ask to see her. Or if it's a really tiny practice, maybe they have a sister practice you can use as well? (round here, rural surgeries are often part of a small consortium, and you can visit whichever one you like)

I think you know that you definitely need to speak to someone about this. It's probably not as sinister as you're imagining, and you can probably get some decent relief from those awful symptoms. Start by phoning the GP, explain your worries to the receptionist and they'll explain the best way to access a female GP. You don't have to be graphic, just say that you're experiencing a range of digestive issues, and you don't feel comfortable speaking to a male doctor about it.

You need to speak to a doctor. They've seen the same and worse a thousand times before.

It's probably not, but it could be something serious, and you don't want to regret not speaking to a professional.

It sounds very much like crohns or colitis and you can have either or both of those without weight loss. Go back to your gp and specifically ask to be referred for a colonoscopy and also for a stool sample to check your calprotectin levels (which shows if you have inflammation). Once you've got your diagnosis you can get some medication to start to feel better. Best of luck xx

Smurf123 · 19/01/2022 23:11

Hi I have similar symptoms, having put it off for a long time I've talked to a go about it. My blood have come back slightly elevated overall and my calprotecton level has come back elevated as well so apparently I need to get it retested.
Gp had said she thought it was ibs but I don't think the calprotecton should be elevated if that's the case.. hope you get some answers

I had colitis, I am very overweight.
I have had my bowel removed but that is because I am one of the few people that absolutely no medication worked for.
You don’t bleed with IBS.
I’d go back and ask for bloods and calprotectin to be checked.

Luredbyapomegranate · 20/01/2022 00:11

It’s really important you talk to your GP as a matter of urgency. What you are describing can be the symptom on inflammatory conditions which can get worse and worse if not treated.

Your GP will be used to this. They’ll ask for samples and take some bloods to check for inflammation.

You might be referred for a colonoscopy or referred directly to a gastro consultancy.

Please call your GP tomorrow

Absolutely see your GP. I had similar issues (has been, after several years, diagnosed as an issue with my pancreas). But I’ve seen many doctors over the past couple of years but with exception of colonoscopy (done in hospital), it’s all just been chats in the office, no exams. But it could be really serious so I wouldn’t delay. If nothing else, it’s no way to live.

My son has crohns and he was never underweight. Blood in stools should always be checked out if it is happening regularly. You don't bleed with ibs. You will need to do a calprotectin test [ stool sample to look for inflammation] They will do a blood test too, but inflammation never shows in my son's blood even when flaring.
