Budget around £20-25. What's been a hit with your child recently?

Simple embroidery kits.
Washi tape and patterned paper for scrapbooking.
Handheld sewing machine (I am not convinced it will work, but she loved it).
Oodie, hooded blanket, soft squishy warm things like that.

LED strip lights seem to be a thing at the moment.

A snoddie (fake oodie from a primark), has to be pryed off her to be thrown in the wash

Anything from the Think Fun games on amazon, Dd loves them as she can play alone or with someone else, She really liked the marble runner logic puzzle.

CheeseMmmm · 18/01/2022 06:08

Your DD? Assume not? Can you ask?

Best not to guess at this age! I think.

CheeseMmmm · 18/01/2022 06:09

Eg mine is into Yes minister, Minecraft plushies, and batman

If you can, ask I reckon!

I can't ask - I will be told she doesn't want anything and is only interested in getting good grades! If I give money or a voucher she won't see it. I'm not allowed to talk to her alone. Thinking about it, the last time I saw her she had a twee little book of all things a girl needs to know; nursery rhymes, how to say "I love you" in about 30 different languages, lists of the top babies names over the past few decades. So something to counter that type of drivel would be great!

Er no… that’s not what gifts are about

It’s not about “countering” something or making a point.

But then again you appear to have no relationship with her or very limited so - go for it and let’s hope it doesn’t end up dust in on her shelf!

CheeseMmmm · 18/01/2022 07:44

Ah. Sounds like tricky situation. No need to expand but got gist.

Would she see book token?
Studious, do you know interests? Science, history art etc?
Does she get much in the way of personal comforty stuff? My kids love really snuggly nightclothes and things.
It's so hard to guess. Tricky age.

reluctantbrit · 18/01/2022 07:49

Nice fluffy blanket and pillow for her bed
Something practical like a water bottle and stationary for school, bit more fun than the normal pens and notebooks.
Would a small bracelet work? DD gave Accessorize ones to friends in Y6 as presents.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 18/01/2022 07:56

Stationery, book about strong or influential women, diamond art, loungewear, fake oodie, led lights

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 18/01/2022 07:57

ID /charm type bracelet?
Tie dye kit and white cotton t shirt to dye
Video game (depending on if she has a console£
Squishmallow soft toy
Slipper boots
Fleece onesie

DD (10.5) says sweets and chocolate !

TheDayOfTheDucks · 18/01/2022 07:59

I don't think she would have free choice with a book token, she would be taken to a book shop and allowed to choose something the parents deemed suitable.

It’s not about “countering” something or making a point.
No, I'm not trying to make a point. But I'm the only person who can probably get away with giving her something to counter such stereotypes.
But then again you appear to have no relationship with her or very limited so - go for it and let’s hope it doesn’t end up dust in on her shelf!
Exactly, if it's on her shelf, she may read it and it won't change anything with respect to how often we see them.

Studious, do you know interests? Science, history art etc? animals, I know she does horse riding.
Does she get much in the way of personal comforty stuff? My kids love really snuggly nightclothes and things. No, I don't know what she has like that.

DIY kits
Books or stuff related to her favorite books or movies/cartoons. my friend's DD is 12 and she's a huge fan of Warrior cats series, so it's either plushes or Photoshop calendars or t-shirts with pictures of the characters. Is there anything she's interested in to an extent where she'd love getting some merch products?
Also edible stuff gets down really well, might be chocolates or unusual snacks

wendz86 · 18/01/2022 09:54

My almost 11 year old likes the rebel girls books. Also got for Christmas and likes - led lights, fake plants, bath bombs, fluffy slippers and socks.

edwinbear · 18/01/2022 09:56

10 yr old DD lives in her fake Oodie, it's not been taken off since Christmas Day and has the added benefit of us being able to keep the heating to a minimum Grin

TheDayOfTheDucks · 18/01/2022 19:07

Right, I've gone for a hooded blanket with animals on it. Will look at those books for another occasion.

OP posts:
CheeseMmmm · 19/01/2022 02:30

Good move up I'm sure she'll love it. Snuggly stuff always goes down well, animals shows you thought about her as well.

Glad MN helped :)

Will you see her open it? Guessing not :(
