My period is 8 days late but I'm not pregnant

Have have a monthly cycle app. I don't usually click into it every day. I'm nearly certain I logged my period on the correct date last month in December.

Anyways I was calculating my period to arrive for last week on the Sunday.

I'm Christmas week, I was looking forward to the upcoming Christmas and I was going about my duties as normal looking forward to the Christmas. Then I received some news. I felt shocked and upset and I felt nearl ly sick to my stomach. This stress manifested in pain all around my body. I felt it in my head, my stomach right down to my toes. I felt so sick. I wasn't physically sick.

I was calculating ovulation to be about Christmas day or boxing day. I knew from the stress that I experienced earlier in the week that maybe it would delay ovulation.

So I was expecting this period to be late. It's 8 days late. I wasn't expecting it to be this late.

Has anyone else experience the same before? Late period due to stress? I'm definitely not pregnant because my relationship is sexless.

I think missed would be like 60 days break between periods.
I personally had my periods 10 days later after booster and completely missed the period after my first vaccine. I had it in February and the next period came after 60 days in April. I actually thought it’s the start of menopause in my case so didn’t worry at all, was a bit excited even to get rid of them. I used to it as my cycle was often unreliable. I have pads in my bag and wear everyday liners most of the time. DD has learned to put everyday liners when app shows 5 days left until the next period. It’s saved her a couple of times already.

Vaccine did the same for me. Bizarre!

Whatwillbetheendofus · 19/01/2022 09:12

Yeah I was 2 full weeks late once just from being slightly stressed at work. It came then and everything normal since. All the best x

I wonder if you had the vaccine after ovulation or before? That could effect it. Or it could be all manner of things.

I’ve just had a colposcopy and while not pleasant it was fine but I do hope yours goes well.

Still no period today. This is now cycle day 39 from the start of my last period. It's never been this long before. Even at times of stress before and I've been through much shit over the years.

I had the booster in November and my period came a few days later as expected and that was usual. If it's the vaccine that's causing the delay surely I would have missed Decembers period but that came as normal.

I was going to wear white pants today but the only white bottoms I have are white shorts and leggings really for summer.

I'm just going to lash into a bottle tonight after work.

Any thyroid issues? This happened to me, and apparently is very common for thyroid conditions!

gogohm · 19/01/2022 12:08

I've skipped a month on several occasions pre covid vaccination but also post vaccination I only had very light spotting, then nothing month 2, then heavy month 3. I'm peri menopausal so I don't get alarmed

Mine went wobbly at about the same age. Long gaps and then two very close together. They didn’t stop just got very out of whack.

TurtleBackUp · 19/01/2022 15:22

Mine randomly stopped at 39.

Menopause - haven't had a period since, or any symptoms.

Oh god, that's young for the menopause.

There might be something starting. There's some very slight staining on toilet tissue when I wipe. That's usually the starting sign that the flow will arrive at some stage.

This has happened to me a few times in my life. All sorts of things can cause it like illness, stress, new exercise regime, diet change. I skipped two in a row when I first started running.

Have you had covid recently? I had covid recently and my period was a week late just after covid. Same thing happened after my first covid vaccine aswell. Anecdotally I've heard lots of people say the jab.messed up their cycle

No, I never got covid.

There's still no flow. I thought yesterday there might have been something beginning to start because I found some light colour on tissue but that was it. I also thought I felt a flow or a drip but when I went to the toilet there was nothing.

I was wearing period pants every day since the 10th of January in preparation for the flow arriving. I work in a position where I may or may not be allowed to go to the toilet. I like the period pants in the days before I am due a period so that it gives some protection.

It was never this late before on me.

I think the very fact this is clearly on your mind a lot is causing a delay. Combined with the other things that happened of course. I’ve certainly had that before.

BigButtons · 20/01/2022 12:57

It’s probably the start of peri menopause

User48751490 · 20/01/2022 13:08

Had this happen years ago. Have occasionally skipped a cycle. I knew I definitely wasn't pregnant. Just one of these things.

ChunkyThighs24 · 20/07/2022 16:06

@AutumnDance did you ever get an answer?! Going through the same & it’s never ever happened before to me. I’m 31.

Weñor · 14/10/2023 07:12

@ChunkyThighs24 did you ever find out what caused it? Having the same and never missed one before apart from when pregnant. Definitely not pregnant this time.

ChunkyThighs24 · 14/10/2023 08:03

@Weñor Well from memory it did arrive, just 10 days late I think. The crazy thing is, we were trying for a baby & I was so conscious of trying to get pregnant I swear that had an effect somewhere between body & mind as this has never happened to me before or since.
