Where to stay / eat / drink in Belfast?

Planning a long weekend in Belfast early March. I was a student there over 20 years ago and haven't been back since so I'm prepared to see lots of changes! We're visiting as tourists

A few questions:

Which of the three Premier Inns is best to stay in?

Please recommend some restaurants. We're very flexible about cuisine, prefer really good quality moderately priced rather than fine dining

Any nice chilled out bars or pubs for an early evening drink? Nothing with music playing or too crowded

And what are the must-do experiences for two adults who love walking, eating, drinking and a bit of light shopping? Thanks!

Do you need parking? If so recommend the one at the titanic quarter it's within walking distance to the middle of the town( is a lovely walk over the newish pedestrian Bridge)

To eat gorgeous Italian restaurant called the Chubby Cherub food amazing and again reasonable priced. Or there is Zen for more Asian cuisine.
We also ate recently in the grand central restaurant ( not the super fancy one the other one can't remember it's name) it was delicious and very reasonable.

You need to go to St Georges Market it's brilliant and within walking distance.

Not a big drinker so for pubs I'm not sure.

The titanic exhibition centre is always worth a visit.

Ooh how exciting! Belfast is an amazing city - I really hope you still love it.

All three Premier Inns are within walking distance of everything. Personally I would go for the one in the Cathedral Quarter because I love the bars and pubs around there, but the one on Alfred Street is the most "central".

Honestly you can't really go wrong, food-wise - Belfast restaurants are great - but have a look at the menus for the following and see if you fancy any of them - they're all very good!

  • Home
  • James St
  • Any of the Deanes
  • Zen (Asian food)
  • Holohan's Barge
  • The Muddlers Club
  • La Taqueria (Mexican)

I can't help you too much with the bars/pubs because all the ones I love have live music! But you can't walk five minutes in Belfast without coming across a great pub or bar as I'm sure you'll remember!

I thought the cathedral quarter premier in was great, we had a huge room.

Cathedral quarter premier Inn imo. Close to the bars.

Food.... Northern Whig for pub grub, the academy (university of Ulster restaurant) for bargainous tasting menu on Tues evenings, muddlers club, Mourne seafood bar (all fish!) maybe a peculiar tea for something different- this one's new and I haven't bee , it's Gemma from great British menu's restaurant and currently serving roald Dahl themed tasting menu.

Harp bar and 39 Gordon Street for normal drinks and live music. Drinks like draught pints and standard spirits.
