Manky suction shower mat - alternatives

Fed up of cleaning individual suction pads on our plastic shower mat with an old toothbrush to dislodge the dirt that festers around each suction pad. It's an extra long mat and life is too short.

We had a large shower cubicle installed and stupidly didn't get an anti slip tray. It's very slippy without a mat.

It seems to get really grimey. Wondering if we are especially filthy (2 teenage boys) or if this slimey, dirty debris is normal?

While said festering shower mat was drying this week, I used an old towel to stand on in the shower it was sodden at the end, but I simply threw it in the wash. It got me thinking about alternatives. Yup, I am that sad!

I've seen you can get anti slip stickers to put in showers, cork/wooden boards. Can anyone recommend an alternative?
I don't want to replace the plastic ones every few weeks before somebody suggests this.

My dad has put down anti slip tape that is meant for decking in his.

Dry it after each use and then bung it in the machine with an old towel. The towel "exfoliates" the grime off it.

Rinse off any soap scum and then hang it up to dry after each use. Sometimes it's gets a bit manky, but at the first sign I spray it upside down with cillit bang mould remover and that does the trick without needing to use a brush because I catch it early enough.

Mine go in the washing machine weekly on the 60 wash with the fabric bath mats and hand towels. Scoop of vanish powder and cap of flash all purpose - my cheap alternative to washing liquid. The friction of the fabric cleans the suction cups for you. And now my cleaner knows my user name.

When we used one when DD was young we used to stick it up on the shower wall after use by just a couple of the highest suction cups and it would dangle there drip drying into the bath/shower tray.

Sometimes I would squirt a bit of bleach at it while it hung there. Bleach would creep in through the holes and do it's stuff.

Update: washed on 60 with towels, came out wwll.
Had shower, hung up to dry.

I investigated stickers, but some reviewers were saying they's stained or come loose after a couuple of weeks, so think I am going to try the washing machine method. Somebody said they stuck it in the dishwasher, but not sure about the hygeine there!

I just never thought to machine wash the mat. I assumed it would melt/break, but it has withstood the load.

Thanks for the tips.

Now if anyone can suggest a toothbrush holder/tumbler that stays gunk free, I'd be most grateful! Grin

Now that I do put in the dishwasher! Buy two so you can keep swapping them over and change/ dishwash weekly.

JML hydro wonder

I had the stickers! They lasted for years, didn’t shift, didn’t go manky.

Downsides: rough on the bum when I had a bath. And I think it would have taken a chisel to get them off.

Thanks - good to hear that both dishwasher and stickers do work!
