Teenage Boys and Clothes

Those of you with teenage boys - what do you do about clothes? Do you give an 'allowance' periodically, or just buy as and when requested? We have a juxtaposition Chez DeVeboise in that one DS (15) is happy with 'High Street', but the other DS(13), it's all about the designer gear. How do you deal with it?

My teens wore high street with a few more expensive items for birthday /Xmas but not as a given. Once they got access to own cash they bought designer.. For example ds 16 got 2 k inheritance.. Spent the lot on clothes.
A year later he now regrets..

My teen boys at the moment live on tracksuit bottoms. One has always got a football shirt on the other will just wear a branded t shirt. Every now and then they request something designer that they have seen that they like. But on the whole I'm lucky I don't have your predicament.

In your position I'd decide what budget you're happy for them to have, maybe every 6 months and give them the same amount. It's up to them how they spend it, if your 15 year old wants to save some of his or spend it on something else then that's up to him.

Yabu to feel you need to bow to pressure from a 13 yo regarding their clothes. My friend used to tell me her under 10 wouldn't wear less than designer. No pet you are allowing that - he can't dictate when he ain't paying!!

My son really likes VANS clothing but it's quite expensive so we get it from Ebay and Depop. also buys things in the sales and discounts normally pretty good.

I buy high street. If they wanted something else it’d be Christmas/ birthday. DD likes shein, so she might get 10 items from her wish list for Christmas. DS1 has more expensive tastes so might get 3-4. He has the option to save pocket money/ wage if he wants more but chooses not to. DS2 isn’t into clothes, so he wears high street and gets other stuff for Christmas!

@Santahasjoinedww , I don't feel I 'have to', I'm just trying to work it through, and be as fair as I can all round.

Oh, and FYI - this is 'Chat', not 'AIBU' Wink
