I am in my early 40's. I have 2 kids and my body shows it. My face is red with broken capillaries and my hair is in desperate need of dying so my greying roots are very much visible. I am definitely no oil painting!

Today I went to buy cigarettes and I was asked for ID. I honestly swear I haven't been asked for ID since I was about 19!

I had my work ID on me which I could have used but I was so absolutely stunned that I looked slack jawed at the cashier and simply said 'no I don't have ID...because I'm 40!'

She told me I don't look over 25 with my mask on and I laughed at her and left the store without being served.

So I've decided the fact I have cleansed, toned, moisturised, used retinol and vit c serum for at least three days in a row is absolutely working

Clearly I have found the elixir of youth in a bottle. Happy to offer up my secrets to you all... Grin

Many years ago, we had a Ford Cortina and were frequently stopped by the police who always asked my DH to produce his licence and insurance documents. Maybe the fact that he is Indian had something to do with it - we always wondered, and it stopped when we moved on to other cars. Anyway, on one occasion, the police said that they had stopped us because "we mistook you for someone else, who is too young to drive."

My DH was in his 30s then and well on the way to going bald. He was surprised but I nearly wet myself laughing.

My favourite ID story is my sisters who got ID’d in Ada buying vodka, didn’t have ID but her 18 year old son who was with her did, but they wouldn’t then sell it to him as he was buying it for her!

Igloo71 · 16/01/2022 22:43

Best day of my life, being ID’d in Homesense buying a mandolin. I’m 50. I probably look 45. She told me I was rude when I said my 18 year old daughter would find me being asked for ID hilarious

The Dr who Covid jabbed me asked beforehand if I could be pregnant. I guffawed and said "I can think of at least 7 reasons why the answer is no, one of them is that I'm 54" 😆 made my day though!

I was asked for ID at Christmas for a trolly full of alcohol… showed my driving licence and the cashier who couldn’t have been older than 17 told me I was the youngest looking old person he’d ever seen! …. Urm thanks kid! … I think. …(I’m 38 so not cashing in my pension yet!)

Themadcatparade · 17/01/2022 00:30

I got Id'd for calpol the other week from my local.
My child is 10!

I once got age checked for buying spoons in sainsburys. I think I was in my late 20s. Apparently teaspoons are drug paraphernalia and required id.

LOL, I love this whole discussion. However, I am compelled to add that, at least here in the USA, the law can be quite stringent, and most retailers have a hard and fast rule, "No ID, no sale, no exceptions." If that's the company rule, then the employee must comply or be fired. A friend of mine had to require that her MOTHER show ID, as all transactions are on camera.

Walkerbean16 · 17/01/2022 02:09

I got IDed the other day wearing a mask, my ID was in the car so the cashier said "just pull your mask down - oh god yeah your fine!"

Thanks 😭😭😭

Just prior to taking an X-ray, my dentist asked me if I might be pregnant. I’m 64. I didn’t know whether to kiss him or deck him…

I dontbknow about the op but I'm not short, I'm 5"7

IWishIHadNotDoneIt · 17/01/2022 07:52

Now, in my late 40s, I don't get ID'd Sad but it did annoy me when I was. The last time I was IDd was buying Wine aged 36 with an 11yo next to me going "Mum, mum mum can I have chocolate" Grin
Take it as a compliment Glitterball

@Nisse23

Last time I visited the U.K. I only had my EU country ID on me - which does have a DOB. I’m 30. I went to Waitrose and was refused service because I needed ‘English ID’ to he served. I tried challenging her by saying I live abroad, so of course I wouldn’t have a U.K. ID, and mine had a perfectly recognisable date of birth on it, but she insisted it was a U.K. driving license or passport, or nothing. I had to just walk out. It was super embarrassing. This was before face masks.
thats very strange, I'm not British, and when challenged at checkout was showing my EU ID card, and was always working. So according to this lady any tourists to UK can not buy alcohol????
TheMagiciansNiece · 17/01/2022 09:30

I think it is hard to tell with masks on. I got asked in the supermarket when buying alcohol. I'm 53!

wanttomarryamillionaire · 17/01/2022 09:43

The last time it happened to me was in my 30's, while dressed in my ( medical) work uniform. It made my day Smile

JuergenSchwarzwald · 17/01/2022 09:49

probably not just tourists but residents too. There are some very stupid people around - evidenced by voting for Brexit and Boris, I suppose.

Congratulations on looking so young OP :)

Alonelonelylonersbadidea · 17/01/2022 11:10

I was ID‘d in Tescos when I was 36.
My joy didn’t last long. The cashier told me that I looked younger from behind. Bastard!

cakewench · 17/01/2022 14:52

I waited tables in the USA for a few years in my late teens/ early twenties. Can confirm, most places have rules requiring staff to ID patrons, regardless of age, because the penalties are so high if they mess up. Local liquor license boards send people in as secret shoppers to test you.

(Obviously some people definitely look over a certain age but overall, most people aren't surprised to be carded even when well over the legal age)

auntnellies · 17/01/2022 15:02

I am 70 and was asked for ID when Ibought drinks in USA. Made my day until I realised that they ask everyone no matter what age.

librarian55 · 19/01/2022 16:45

I am 60 and was recently asked for ID!! I would love to think that I could pass for 18 but I am neither blind nor stupid, unlike the delivery driver who asked for my ID.
