I bought a DVD box set of Live Aid a few years ago and decided to put it on this afternoon - oh the memories! I remember watching it on the tv, I'd have been 12. Just wondering if any Mumsnetters were lucky enough to be there and if so what was it like? And how on earth did you go for a pee if you were in the middle of that massive crowd?!

I'm up to Paul Young - loads more to watch, I'm like a pig in shit Smile

We watched highlights over Christmas - so many memories. Brilliant.

I also have the DVD box set. I was left with my DGM as a 2 year old while my parents went. I watched the entire thing trying to spot them but I couldnt. I will have to ask them about the toilet situation.

I was there. It was brilliant. We sat up one side next to royal box where all the celebs were sitting. Couldn’t face standing on the pitch all day. Had a great view and chatted to the bands. Status quo v friendly. Tony Hadley not so much. Went to the loo easily from memory. Bumped into someone I knew in the crowd on the way to the loo which was unbelievable.

I was about 12 as well, watched it on the telly and remember being completely blown away by the sheer scale of the crowd.

It's also the reason why to this day, I absolutely cannot hear 'Rockin All Over the World' without weeping like a total muppet, so nice to hear Status Quo were friendly @Kaftankween Grin

I was there! Right down the front too! There was probably about 200 people in front of us. We were on the right as you look at the stage AND you can see me and the people I was with in the official Live Aid annual that came out afterwards.

It was - I am not going to lie - INCREDIBLE!

When the gates opened, we all stormed in and just sat on the ground having picnics. It was a BOILING hot day. Then when Status Quo started it all off with ‘Rocking All Over World, the entire pitch based stadium got up and ran ran ran to the front and we went bonkers! If never have danced / sung to The Quo before or since but my god, in that moment they are fantastic!

As were Queen and U2. Just amazing. I remember walking back through the streets on London later and knowing we’d been at something that would be remembered for life. The next day, my parents (not known for their love of popular culture!) said they’d watched it and that every single TV in the country appeared to be tuned in to it - they said they’d gone out in the evening and it was blaring out of every open window.

It really was incredible (and to pee, you just chose an act you weren’t so interested in and squeezed your way through the very friendly crowd). I was 14. A very good day!

So jealous @Kaftankween and @LeQuern - something you'll never forget. I'll look out for you down the front LeQuern. I expect Tony Hadley was a bit off because he seems to have been wearing a leather coat and leather trousers, probably a bit hot & bothered!

Tony was indeed wearing a massive long leather coat! He must have been roasting.

People have asked me how we got tickets. We just rang the booking line snd got straight through.

I also remember walking back afterwards and just buzzing. It was an unforgettable day.

I was there as a steward.

At the previous concert at Wembley (Bruce Springsteen) someone climbed into the lighting gantry and tried to get onto the stage so to prevent this from happening again I was stationed on the lighting gantry for the entire concert! I had a bird's eye view of the entire thing Grin

suckingonchillidogs · 15/01/2022 17:58

That is so cool @scorpio32 !

It's so moving seeing it again for some reason - makes you realise the passing of time. And the mullets, so many mullets! I was thinking I'd fast forward through a few acts but I've enjoyed them all so far. Ultravox and Bryan Ferry were unexpectedly good

Wow @scorpio32 that’s incredible!

The Quo were (allegedly) responsible for ensuring everything the backstage party was kicking off with the energy of a Colombian marching band.

Jealous of you people actually there. I was working bar in my local and we had it on all day. Amazing atmosphere.
