Personal stuff in the office

Strange question for you all, but for those that work in offices, what personal possessions do you have at work.
If you had to pack up your desk and leave what would be in your box?
I work in an office and have been the manager for 6 years, if I left today I could pick up my coat and be gone.
In my last job I at least had photos of my kids or spare shoes for a lunch time walk etc. Feels a little odd now I've realised!

I've just done this, my last day at work today!
Envelope of personal employment paperwork (DBS, certificate from course, etc)
Photo of kids
Heavy shoes (job occasionally out and about and I've struggled in ballet bumps walking through a field!)
Hot chocolate powder
Mini desk fan for summer
Heated mouse pad for winter
Mug.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 14/01/2022 13:14

I've done this recently as I'm moving to 100% wfh. A bowl, some cutlery, a couple of photos, a spare power pack, spare glasses and some paperwork. The photos were the only thing I wouldn't want to have lost.

Kite22 · 14/01/2022 13:15

Most places I've worked, I've had a mug and stuff to make drinks. Where I've had a drawer, I've tended to leave things I might want at work such as paracetamol, and usually something like a cuppa soup so I'm not stranded if didn't have lunch for some reason.

Back in the day, I'd have had things like a stapler, but don't use stuff like that now everything is electronic.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 14/01/2022 13:16

Oh and a mug but I wasn't attached to that as it was an old freebie.

purplesequins · 14/01/2022 13:17

cardigan
spare socks
hand cream

NeverDropYourMooncup · 14/01/2022 13:17

A snake plant.

Can't be arsed with desk clearing. I've been made redundant enough times to know that it's not worth the aggro.

BertyFlanter · 14/01/2022 13:18

I don't even have a mug! The most obvious of office possessions 😏

Several pairs of shoes.
Mug, plate, cutlery.
Make-up bag and hairbrush
First aid kit
Two shelves of work-related books that I bought myself.
Coffee machine.

I don't think it would all fit in a box!

Purplepeopleeaterz · 14/01/2022 13:22

Half my house! I work long hours, like home comforts and have a very big office & kitchen..

Wellies - for walking the dog at lunch break (we are dog friendly)
Coffee machine - only drink decaff and hate the instant stuff
Nutribullet blender - smoothie in the afternoon to keep me going
Vitamins - always forget to take them at home
Dog treats, bowls and blanket
Mirror/tweezers - to pluck stray chin hairs before meetings
Plates and mugs/coaster & cutlery
Plants x 3
Fan for summer
Christmas tree (though would probably leave this)
Teddy given to me by a rep personalised for our company
Fridge freezer (would leave)
Microwave
Various books given as gifts from colleagues that I'll never read
Jar of lollies

I do spend far too much of my life at work!

BlueSky8 · 14/01/2022 13:23

grapewine · 14/01/2022 13:26

Back when I worked in an office. Chocolate and tea. A phone charger and painmeds.

Chemenger · 14/01/2022 13:27

I’m an academic and I’ve worked in the same department for 30 years. I have two bookcases of books, a range of odd little presents that students have given me: mugs, pens, an incense burner and a small wooden chest. I have safety boots a lab coat a warm cardigan for times that my office is cold, a spare pair of shoes and a towel. A couple of pictures on the wall. I used to have a full hazmat suit but I got rid of it. I also have various but of equipment for demonstrations in lectures, mostly for tropes of explosion. There are a couple of bottles of wine in my desk drawer. I have copies of all the PhD theses I’ve supervised or examined. And a lot of paper.

Chemenger · 14/01/2022 13:27

Oh and a box of tissues for weeping students.

SquigglePigs · 14/01/2022 13:49

We have hot dealing and a clean desk policy now since covid. Before that when I went on maternity leave it was:
A couple of photos pinned to the desk divider
A couple of little tins with tea bags and paracetamol in them
A couple of silly little clay animals stuck to the top of my monitor
My name made out of Scrabble tiles hanging on a pin on the desk divider
Some magnets stuck to the back of the filing cabinet next to my desk.

I'm glad I don't really go into the office any more. The lack of personalisation is a bit depressing. The company have put out loads more plants though, which is nice.

ohidoliketobe · 14/01/2022 13:51

All my stuff is still on my desk from when we went to wfh 22 months ago! I was on annual leave when the original lockdown announcement was made so didn't have chance to pack it away.

I had a few mugs, glasses, plates and cutlery, some emergency food (porridge sachets, cereal bars, tin or two of soup), stationary umbrella and a thick cardigan

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 14/01/2022 13:54

I filled my home office with bags and bags of stuff from my work when I left.
Slippers, a blanket, a mug, loads of stationery stuff like little document shelves, box files, printed training PowerPoint, notebooks, pens, craft supplies. An inflatable ball. Dolls with little placards on their wrists held on with elastic bands.

FiveGs · 14/01/2022 13:55

Hand cream
Lip balm
Kit Kat
Paracetamol

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 14/01/2022 13:57

etulosba · 14/01/2022 14:01

I had to do this recently when I retired. My situation was similar to Chemeger’s above except that I had been there longer. It took three big SUV loads to get my stuff home.

itwasntaparty · 14/01/2022 14:05

I've just done this too:

Shoes, a lot of shoes
Spare chargers
Pencil case

The rest of my drawer went in the bin, it was all old out of date stuff that I thought might come in handy one day.

ZimZamZoom · 14/01/2022 14:10

On my desk, the only personal item I have is a small pebble that my children painted with a pretty pattern.

In my desk drawer, I have work shoes, a cardigan, hand cream and a nail file. Mug and a tin of coffee, a bowl, knife, fork, soup spoon and tea spoon.

I had a lot more pre-pandemic, but there was a fire in our office while I was WFH and I lost it all. Don't bother with much now because of that.

OvernightBloats · 14/01/2022 14:11
