Alternatives to Louise Newson

Posting in chat for traffic..

Paid 235 to see Louise Newson last January and again in May. Seriously underwhelmed with time given (20 minutes), cookie cutter approach - gel/utro/testosterone and mistakes made in emails that were telling me to increase my dosage on the back of bloods when actually I didn't need to: I did get an apology.

A year on, I'm in a mess, HRT is not working for me (won't bore with details) and my case is complex. I see her on the TV, on IG in the papers but I would love to see someone who really takes the time to listen. I've emailed Diane Danzebrink - no reply. My apt is due with Dr N soon.

Who else is great (and perhaps a shade cheaper would also be bonus)? And has anyone else been left disappointed/underwhelmed? It feels like the clinic has become a factory that doles out the same treatments regardless. Or maybe that's just my experience.

Dr Sharzardi Harper at The Harper Clinic is good but around the same price as Louise Neeson.
I've heard good things about Nick Panay who also practises on NHS but I think he has long waiting lists.

Hi - I share your disillusionment with the Newson clinic - I don't pay to see LN just a nurse but it's still a lot of money for what you describe so well as a cookie cutter approach with limited individual support. Don't have any alternatives to suggest unfortunately but just wanted to endorse your opinion!

Thanks both. Yes, total disillusionment. And the more I see her in TV the more I feel it!

Bump - any other suggestions? Or has LN cornered the market?!

I see Dr Alice Scott, a menopause specialist GP based in Brentwood. She is absolutely lovely and takes a very individual age holistic approach. It’s not cheap, but well worth it.

Thank you @FoxRedLabbingtons Smile

I think Bupa has a menopause service and you don't have to take their health insurance. But I've not used it myself and I don't know how good it is.

I've used Dr Imogen Shaw at private doctors online in Cambridge, she works out of the Nuffield hospital. I've seen her in person and had telephone appointments. She's very personable, listens and responds very quickly to emails. Initial menopause appointment is £220 I think and follow up appts £100. £35 charge for a private prescription.

If you're anywhere near Oxford, this looks good: www.oxfordmenopause.com/ I can't recommend it, though: I've been dithering so much that I haven't got around to making an appointment!

@feettothestars @Puppylucky Yes. Re raising this as I've been pushed from pillar to post by Newson with no consistent care. All I've ever been told is to increase my oestrogen, reduce my progesterone to the point that I had to have a very invasive Hysteroscopy, Polyp removal and biopsy due to the thickening of my womb lining. All because my womb hasn't been protected from the absurd HRT levels they prescribed. At no point in my care of over 16 months, have they ever suggested a scan to check whats going on, despite my shaking to them about some abnormal bleeding.

The clinic just throws out. one size fits all approach without addressing what could be causing the issues. You're lucky to get 20-30 mins of someone actually listening to you without talking over you.

I'm concerned that the 'evidence based research' Newson always talks about is done in house with their own algorithms and isn't actual research.

Are you on Instagram? Please feel free to PM me as Ive had a very interesting conversation with another ex patient today.

I know this thread is old, but I went to Newson online and had a good experience, as my GP surgery said my results were normal for testosterone, yet I was still getting symptoms.
I am 58 post meno on oestrogen and progesterone.
I'd had enough of a hassle getting oestrogen and progesterone when I was 47, as the NHS was still being taken in by that WHI study.
I must admit, as I had been burying my head with menopause (58 post meno on oestrogen and progesterone) and just thought HRT didn't sort everything, when I watched Newson on YouTube, she scared me a bit, talking about preventable diseases. The subject of menopause made me feel a bit macabre.
In the end I spoke to local people in meno Facebook groups and decided to get my testosterone bloods on the NHS.
I went back to Dr Newson's content, she might as well have been speaking to me, when it came to testosterone symptoms and you got free biology lessons in with her content.
While I binged on her stuff, I wanted to know if there were others on the internet who thought like her.
I watched a podcast with Dr Lisa Mosconi and some other chap, and I thought it would be good if Dr Lisa Mosconi and Dr Newson got together.
Lo! and behold, Dr Newson had already asked, a year ago, to do a podcast with Dr Lisa Mosconi and it was very good.
I decided to go with a Dr at the Newson Clinic and she explained why I was feeling low testosterone, going over my NHS bloods for T, FAI and SHBG, giving me a good analogy oftestosterone's limited availability in my body body.
She said I could increase the other hormones at follow up, depending on how I was doing.
