Just trying to decide to extend, or move Moving would cost us about. 170k more for the next house up
4 bed detached

Current 3 bed semi
Or extend this by going three story
With a master bedroom and en-suite in loft with a full width dorma for about 50k
Mayble slightly more

Apprently in the loft we could have two bedrooms or one master suite
We’d go for one master suite ideally with a little seating relaxing area as well

@kweevle I used my NHS pension lump sum to buy a house for cash (not in the UK), what a great investment that was!

We were 35 (in 2008).

Guacamole001 · 14/01/2022 19:10

@Warsaw

turkeyisoverrated what were the investments?
Currency trading - very volatile but my OH has studied for years in his spare time and it finally paid off Smile

It's difficult to compare just based on age.

For example I solely own my house, no partner help. I should have it paid off at 57. I'm 52 now. Current house value about £375 which is entirely my equity and net worth, not split between two. If I had a partner then its the equivalent of me paying off a £750k house.

In theory 70 as we're choosing to borrow more to extend. We'll be working till we're about 68 so mortgage company is fine with it. Once the kids are providing for themselves we hope to over pay and be finish by 60
