How do you keep energised in the evenings?

I'm working from home at the moment, researching a particular topic and writing about it. I get up at about 6, feel full of beans & get down to it almost straight away. A short workout and then I break at 12 for lunch, usually carb-free, some soup or salad. I get back into it, then go out for a walk or to do chores - pick up stuff from supermarket, sometimes work meetings. Dinner at 6, but after that, I'm exhausted. I want to try to work on in the evenings, but my energy just goes, and I end up slumped on the sofa with my eyes shut, or just surfing mindlessly.

How can I give myself more pep? I take vitamins, have coffee by day. I am awake enough to read by about 10 ish, and then sleep at midnight.

Any ideas? I've tried a cold drink tonight but I'm not sure it has had much effect...

I agree about the too long breaks - I work three days and in the first lockdown I had to WFH with my teen DCs also at home. I ended up spreading my three days work over 5 and evenings so I could do other stuff, help the DCs with tech, keep them company (one had his GCSEs pulled and didn't have much to do). It was not good for me at all, I ended up tired, feeling as though I wasn't doing anything properly, never really switching off from work. Going back to regular 9-5 days was much better time management.

As for evenings generally, I am similar in that I tend to wake at 6 (although I make a cuppa, and go back to bed to read the news/MN etc on my phone till about 7) and lights off at midnight, but I generally have quite a lot of energy in the evening so long as I don't let my bum touch the sofa, if I do, that's that, I'm there for the evening. So long as I stay on my feet or only sit in upright chairs i.e. at the kitchen or dining table I don't find any problem with keeping my energy levels up. I'm in my mid 50s. I sometimes crash a bit on Fridays and go to bed around 10 but not every week.
