Year 2 SATs

I know a lot of people will reply saying there's no need to prepare for the year 2 SATs and I agree. I don't intend to do much preparation; however, there are some bundles of resources on Amazon that look useful, just for me to read through and then try to help my child to be prepared in a gentle way, not through use of practice papers. Does anyone have any resources that they particularly recommend?

Hi, I would go through past papers than buy anything.

The Gov website has free ones. Teacher recommended we go through them and White Rose Maths for reinforcement.

Thank you tigermummy. I will have a look at those!

If you have time , you can help them with year books from WH Smith. Lots of fun activities and stickers for rewards. For SATs definitely use Gov website for past papers and KS1 curriculum .

Please don't go through past papers as we do these in school and if they are done at home it could make it difficult for the teacher to know where additional help is needed,

I thought SATs were supposed to be an indication of how well the school is teaching kids during normal school hours? If they are tutored by parents to 'do well' this massively skews the results. Children age 7 shouldn't be doing 'tests' anyway without the added pressure of having to get a good score.

Bearnecessity · 12/01/2022 19:57

Some children enjoy learning and challenge. They also enjoy tests, not all children call this 'pressure'. Be careful of sweeping statements children are individuals.

Hi all- looking for advice to Guildford schools and I know this topic has been done before. Looking at Cats, GHS and Tormead for 2 daughters who will be trying for year 3 and year 7 next year!
Heard great things about all- attracted by the idea of possible scholarships at Year 3 for Tormead according to the website- any advice on this school or the admissions? Also seen that GHS tend to be difficult scholarship wise. My eldest daughter is a violinist and fairly academic but may not be 'scholarship' material. However she really wants to aim for one but i don't want her to be let down. Any advice on either school for Year 7 and 3 scholarships at all?
Thanks.

@Retrodad12 You might be better starting your own thread 😉
