Hi

I have started to suffer very regular migraines. I have had these all my life but only Infrequently. I have seen my gp and had a recent eye test.
My gp has prescribed something that is mostly used for depression but has been proven to be affective for migraines also. However, its also used as a sleep tablet and I have young children with additional needs so need to be awake at night so stopped taking these after a few weeks. I didn't see a huge benefit in that time.

These migraines are becoming weekly occurrences and really impact my life. I lose vision, be sick, slurred speech etc I struggle to do basic things and need to go to bed. Its so painful. I can't though because I have a job and children so I need to get on top of this.

Has anyone found a solution. Does anyone have any suggestions. Do you di anything differently to prevent them.

Thanks
A

I have hemiplegic migraine and so lots of medication doesn't work. I have tried an aculieve quite good which works on the acupuncture method.

I find oranges, black currant, any red herbal teabags, cheese and chocolate all trigger my migraine.
Some atmospheric conditions trigger them too- bright sun and wind for example.
Flickering lights can cause a problem.
As I have aged I have found the migraines have become less frequent.
I still suffer from classical migraine from time to time.
Medication does not help me.
I need a dark room and to lie down until the attack passes.
I do sympathise with you and hope you find a way to control them.

I suffer from a nice combo of chronical migraines and fibromyalgia, triptans were no longer a solution as the frequency got too high and I had aura on everyday basis.
Amitryptiline - meh. Felt like a zombie.
I'm on Venlafaxine now and find it the best solution so far, with the only exception - it completely annihilated my sense of hunger. I was probably one of the few people who lost weight during Christmas. I have to push myself to eat every day and could go through the day without anything as I feel like I've eaten already.
