How much would you expect to pay for this holiday?!

Sorry to post in chat but I want to get a wider range of responses than in the holiday forum. How much would you expect to pay in total for this kind of holiday? I’m having a disagreement with DH (and need to prove that I’m right haha)

  • One week all inclusive
  • Two adults, one toddler (1) one preschooler (3)
  • Somewhere in Europe. No particular location but warm and by the beach. Avoiding Bulgaria and turkey or any massive resorts eg Benidorm, would rather Portugal or Greece or italy but not tied to one specific location if that makes sense.
  • reasonable flight times that don’t involve getting up at 3am or arriving at midnight
  • quite fussy on standards. Don’t want a “pile em high sell it cheap” type place. Needs to be very clean, not at all “tacky”, basic but good quality food. Nowhere with stag dos.
  • not during school holidays, can go late June or early September
  • somewhere that offers a room big enough for us to be able to shut the kids away in the evening. So either a two bed place or at least a separate bedroom. Not just everyone together in one hotel room.

Thanks!

OP just booked the kind of place you are looking for but in school holidays - suitable places were between 5.5k and 8k for 10 days … I think you’re own budget let alone your husbands is a little low . Have a look at British Airways holidays - we found them considerably cheaper than Tui

Samanabanana · 12/01/2022 10:05

3k

Workin8til6 · 12/01/2022 10:08

Please can anyone share anything they have found in their own searches that they think might fit our requirements?! I’d be really grateful.

I’ve looked at so many places now that I actually had a dream last night about being in a hotel on holiday but it started raining through the ceiling and we had to get all our stuff out. Maybe this is a metaphor for the traumatic process of booking a holiday 😂 (lighthearted, yes I know we’re very lucky, yes I know it’s a first world problem, before anyone jumps on me!)

I would have said £4K

Bitezbabe · 12/01/2022 10:16

My daughter and her partner and two children spent a week in Corfu mid September. They had a one bed suite with a lounge with a spare bed and room for a cot. Hotel was lovely. Splash pool was great for families. Cost around £3500. No need to spend any money once there.

I booked End of June 1 week all inclusive 4 star resort with lots of amenities in Gran Canaria for 2 adults and 2 teenagers .
It cost us 2.8k for 2 large rooms . I think you could get something for 2 -2.5k.

I have found Canary Islands to provide the best AI options although flight a little longer. Hotels tend to have more facilities and better standard of accommodation

MamaGaia · 12/01/2022 10:21

I would say £3,000 at least.

Jota67 · 12/01/2022 10:21

Last year we stayed in Bahia Principe Fantasia in Tenerife and that was also lovely. Close to airport and great facilities for kids. Different a la carte restaurants to eat in instead of buffet all the time.

Check Jet2 and filter by 4 and 5 star and trip advisor ratings 4 and above and you will see the better standard options

I think you can definitely find something good

We stayed at the Atlantica Beach Resort in Kos last summer at a cost of £6000 for two weeks all inclusive. We spent ages searching as we usually do Airbnbs in Spain but the Covid tests were much cheaper with a package holiday.

This resort seemed far nicer than anything else on the Tui website. We had two bedrooms next to each other.

The only downside was that we were initially given rooms that seemed inferior to the ones we'd booked. Reception said there was nothing they could do as everything was fully booked, so my DH got his phone out, went on their website and showed that the type of room we wanted was available for our dates, so they had to move us to a better room.

Separately - In regards food, as a coeliac, I’d be careful with buffets.

Greece (specifically Vougliameni and the Greek islands) have always been very good when I have visited however they wouldn’t fit what you are looking for in regards holiday.

What I would recommend for your allergies is a language card outlining very clearly what you can and cannot eat. I have accessed these in the past from the Coeliac Society / have asked a colleague who speaks the language to write. I then print multiple copies to hand out at restaurants.

@SportsMother

You could fly equally to La Rochelle, Bordeaux or Poitiers.
@SportsMother - I was going to suggest this.

For me personally for families with kids I'd avoid Bordeaux, not sure about Poitiers but La Rochelle (and various places like Ile de Re etc) are very family friendly - but I think you may have to look slightly out of town for a 4 star AI hotel which would cover that budget. La Rochelle though is stunning. Not sure how great they'd be with gluten free etc diets but the French have got much better over the years re allergies and vegan/veggie diets.

Iamthedom · 12/01/2022 10:55

The GF Isabel in Costa Adeje Tenerife with Jet 2 offer AI and 1 bed apartment with a corner type sofa bed in living room which is fine for Kids
Low rise village type resort and close to the beach but not the nightlife

Gonnagetgoing · 12/01/2022 10:56

If you do go to Bordeaux you could find a hotel out of town, maybe even in town - my pet hate re Bordeaux is it is very hot and humid there in summer - and also very spread out - even with tram stops and being near a river - I couldn't imagine anything worse than being with 2 young kids under 5 in pushchairs/being carried in slings etc on holiday - and it does get crowded in summer.

Saintes may be better - nice second largest town in Charentes-Maritime area - quite relaxed and child friendly from recollection, lots to do and near enough to other parts of the region to travel to. also see Jonzac which is nearby and where parents have holiday home.

3luckystars · 12/01/2022 10:58

€1500 is not realistic for all inclusive.

Gonnagetgoing · 12/01/2022 10:59

If it were me (and friends with young kids have been here) - it'd be Canaries too - Tenerife or Gran Canaria would fit the bill - most hotels there have good AI - you could get a nice 2 bedroom in a hotel complex with lots for kids to do, near beach etc. Not sure how much you'd pay but you could get for 2/2.5K on what friends paid which I think is reasonable.

Iamthedom · 12/01/2022 11:03

GF Isobel Tenerife May from London STN
1551 for all of you if your toddler is under 2
AI 1 bed apartment with Jet 2

Iamthedom · 12/01/2022 11:07

On Jet 2 you can filter by 2 bed apartments
And AI Cheapest is 1250 most expensive is 2k for all of you in two bed apartments in May
Tenerife AI

Mumdiva99 · 12/01/2022 11:12

Try Vitor's Village in Algarve. Lovely apartments with SC facilities and one or two bedrooms. The hotel offer an upgrade to full board. If you don't buy a package and go independently then short car ride/taxi to airport- or really easy to navigate train line.

Only downside is that the beach is a 10/15 minute walk with the buggy. - when we went we took a free shuttle to the beach and walked back.

Impatientwino · 12/01/2022 11:20

We have booked a lovely all inclusive 4 star resort with 2 interconnecting rooms for a week in the Easter holidays in Cyprus. 2 adults and 2 DC.

We've stayed at their adults only hotel and spa next door and were very very impressed so hoping their family one is to the same standard. Judging by the online reviews it is and we did have a quick snoop when we were there too and it looked great.

Food and service were amazing and plenty of loungers etc - not that we get to sit down much with our kids GrinThey've got flumes and splash bits so a bit of something for everyone.

I've booked flights directly with EasyJet at reasonable times and booked and AI package with the hotel directly and it's around £5K so I would expect in late June or September it to be marginally cheaper.

As people have said the 2 bedrooms pushed the cost up but to us that's worth it and we are very fortunate to be able to afford it this year.

Impatientwino · 12/01/2022 11:21

We looked at Spain for the same time and it was cheaper but weather still iffy and Cyprus should be 23-24 ish then which is perfect for us.
