DSIL's birthday is coming up and DH has been useless. Grrrr. He usually leaves shopping to the last minute anyway, but has been busy with work recently and it turns out has done pretty much nothing. I feel like I need to step in for DSIL's sake (her own DH isn't always the most imaginative either) and I'm trying to find something genuinely nice that can be delivered or emailed within next couple of days. Shock

I suggested to DH a treatment or two at a local spa. I don't do spas, but like my SIL I think I'd be secretly pretty chuffed at the chance to indulge. It has to be something she can book at her convenience, and possibly something a few months from now, given that it might not be that relaxing to do a spa day at peak Corona...

Is this a terrible idea? I'd like to get her something fairly flexible, so she can choose when to go and what treatment/s to have (she might not relish the idea of getting all/most clothing off, for example, as indeed I would not, post-Christmas.).

Could I please have recommendations for tried and tested spas in the Glasgow area? Smile

If you’re wanting a more high end experience I’ve heard that the spas at Marr Hall and Blytheswood Hotel are good (I’ve not used them myself as I tend to use a local, less fancy one). In which part of the city does she live? Would you be looking for the whole shebang (pool, sauna, steam room etc) as well as treatments?

I’m not a spa person either but Marr Hall is beautiful, DH and I went for a couples treatment years ago as part of a package with our room and even I (and him) loved it.

If your SiL lives in or near Glasgow city itself, the Blysthwood hotel is lovely and does a very nice champagne lunch, too!

Mar Hall is a wee bit further out, near Bishopton, and you need to drive / be driven, as it's miles away from the train station in Bishopton and there's no public transport.

Have been to both and, on balance, I'd say I prefer the Blythswood: Mar's setting is lovely, but it's a) a bit of nuisance to get to and b) I don't think the facilities are as good, tbh.

What did you do in the end @GlomOfNit?

GlomOfNit · 17/01/2022 13:42

Sorry, I did the MN Crime of posting and buggering off! In fact I ended up doing my own research because my post got a bit buried, and plumped for the spa at Blythswood Hotel, so I'm really chuffed that it had two recs here! Grin Thanks everyone and sorry to be a bit rubbish at coming back. SIL seems happy and I hope she enjoys her well-earned break when she takes it.

And what a lovely SIL you are OP ! I hope your husband appreciates you doing that for his family.

I was going to say blythswood, having been there a few times everything else seems a bit shit by comparison.
