Too scared to Google

Please help me. Following a health scare I have really bad health anxiety. There's something bothering me and causing me a lot of stress but I'm too scared too Google. It's probably nothing but i need to know if I ought to get it checked out.

I sometimes make a loud hiccup, burping noise. It sounds like a Yelp. I've only noticed it when standing.

Am I being silly and worrying over nothing or had I best get it checked out?

Don't Google! Call your dr and see what they say.

That's a normal noise. Hiccuping is a complicated, highly organised thing and sometimes it happens in an uncoordinated way! So you sort of squeak!

Don't worry.

I get this too, I call them burcups (burp/hiccups). Mine usually come on when I'm particularly stressed, they started during my A-levels.

If you've got no other symptoms (ie pain etc) I wouldn't be concerned, but a trip to the GP if you're really worried won't do any harm.

And yes, stay away from Google! It's a blessing and a curse x

Thank you and yes, there's a lot of stress at the moment. It's very strange though - just one very loud Yelp noise completely out of nowhere! Blush

I think it's tension. Your body is a bit tense so the naturally occurring hiccups get 'caught' and vocalised on the way out!

Make an appointment to discuss your health anxiety. Having the odd strange hiccup is not indicative of anything sinister but your level of anxiety is worrying.
I hope you can get it under control. It's not easy but there is medication available or CBT can be very helpful if you can access a course.

@SmileyClare I think you're right. I thought my health anxiety would go once I'd got the all clear but it looks like it's just found something else to worry about Confused

You may well find that this keeps happening until the anxiety is dealt with. Anxiety needs to have something to focus on, so it will pick up every little thing.

I've no idea about the hiccup thing, but it's definitely worth seeing your GP about the underlying anxiety. There are lots of things they can do to ease it and get you feeling more like yourself.

SmileyClare · 11/01/2022 09:47

Weirdly, one of the first things that's affected by stress and anxiety is your digestion and breathing so it's likely all tied to that.

Just acknowledging your anxiety and talking about it can help. Do you have people close who you can speak to? Don't suffer in silence.

There are also practical things you can try; relaxation techniques, exercise is very good, yoga, breathing exercises or simple mindfulness techniques.

It sounds like you've had a tough time with a frightening health scare so your reaction to that is normal. Be kind to yourself and try to ask for some support Flowers

I make all sorts of weird yelpy hiccup noises. Agree you need to sort your health anxiety, otherwise next week it’ll be your brain and then your skin and then your bowels…it’s never ending.
