My Fitness Pal - Is the school run real exercise-

Now all the Xmas food has gone I'm starting MyFitness Pal. It says I earned 178 extra calories from exercise which was walking to school and back. My Garmin automatically tracks the exercise.

I don't think I should count this though?
I'm allowing myself 1200 calories a day as a post menopausal woman with a belly like Buddha. Do I get to eat these extra calories? Or ignore?

It’s exercise, why wouldn’t it count because it was the school run? If you want to ignore the extra calories it’s given you then just do that.

I wouldn't eat back the calories - I find that calories are over-estimated so it's best to err on the side of caution!

I suppose @LawnFever it's just being active but not exercise, my heart rate was barely engaged!

It's a 7 minute walk four times a day.
Hoovering would be more strenuous but I wouldn't log it as exercise. 😆

I would dearly love to use the calories but I'm worried I won't lose the weight.

I log mine as exercise - but I walk 5 miles in total -I push harder up the steep hill so my heart is beating faster. If it was a quick sprint round the corner I wouldn’t bother.

Ignore exercise calories, but make sure your calorie allowance is based on your TDEE not a random number you plucked out of the air

Mine did this when I linked my Fitbit and at first I didn't notice and started eating the extra calories. Once I twigged I changed the settings so it didn't add them into my calorie allowance.

I wouldn’t count it as exercise. You’re moving but you’re not increasing your heart rate

Thank you - what is that TDEE please?
