3 month old on holiday-help advice needed!

My partners family are going on a family holiday to Turkey in July and have persuaded me to join with a 3 month old! Now I am second thinking my decision! Turkey is so hot at this time of year! Has anyone taken a baby this young to a hot country? Any advice or guidance?? I'm panicking!

I took my three month old to Mexico. It was all fine. They can't move at that age so it's easier than many other ages

We are from the UK but had our eldest DC in the middle of an Australian summer. 35-36 degree days.

When they are young and not mobile, they are easy to keep in the shade.

Our DC was 6 weeks old before she wore long sleeves. Lots of short sleeved body suits. Rather than a blanket we use to put a light muslin wrap over her.

Just pack light layers of clothing.

Relax, really. It is an easy time to take a baby away with you and with family to persuade to take a turn entertaining the baby you might get some down time too! Remember they have babies in hot countries too. Light clothing and keep your baby in the shade. Don't cover the pushchair to create shade as it makes a little hot greenhouse inside. Use a parasol attached to the pushchair instead or a lightweight sling and have a parasol or wide floppy hat that shades you both.

If you breastfeed baby may be very frequently for thirst, that is fine and doesn't mean anything is wrong. If bottle feeding you may find similar, that baby is taking little and often. Don't be tempted to give water, they don't need it.

They will be fine. Lots of babies live in hot countries Smile.

Layers to add or remove are a good plan and a decent buggy with a sunshade so they can sleep easily in the shade

Hey OP - we travelled to hot countries when my DS was three months old. Make sure you have shade wherever you go, keep him hydrated (we slightly over-watered formula - he got a bit dehydrated and constipated in the heat otherwise), and layers are a good idea. A cold flannel on the forehead and chest if he gets really warm is a good idea too.

Plan your pram or carrier appropriately too. Good sunshade is a must, and consider how to stop plasticky pram material being sticky in the heat for him. For a carrier, try a cool one designed for hot weather. If I was you, I would avoid slings - I found them really really warm.

Oh - and don’t plan too much if you can. Try to take it easy. Three month olds are super mobile but they are also quite unpredictable so be prepared to tell family you need to just go and have some quiet time in the air conditioning for a while :)

Sorry - as in, don’t plan to do too much. Obviously do plan - babies take a lot of organisation!

A muslin makes a good sunshade too over a buggy or car window. Thinner than a blanket.

Mine was three months on her first hot holiday so much easier when they are that age. You can keep them in a shady area under umbrellas they dint run around. Toddlers are far more problematic

Took both boys away to Thailand and turkey this age. Please get a proper sun shade don't use a blanket..google it. It creates a hear trap. I'd take plenty of white and light clothes.

No! No it doesn’t! Please don’t cover your child in a buggy with a Muslin! It will just make it like a greenhouse!

This is so dangerous, absolutely do not do this, it traps heat and basically makes an oven. Get a proper sunshade/parasol.

Personally I think it’s a good age to travel with, I’d go!

It's a good age to take them, they can't move and don't need a lot of occupying. I do think it depends on the baby though, DD would not have coped well at that age in Turkish weather in July, she couldn't deal with the British summer very well when it was no hotter than 28ish, she was very restless, unsettled and completely went off milk, food etc. Do not put a muslin/blanket/cover of any sort over the pram as it traps the heat! Use a proper parasol/sunshade!
