What do news readers do between the news bulletins? The lady presenting the local news on BBC this morning said she'll be back at lunchtime, what will she be doing until then?

I know there have been threads similar to this before but add your own if you like.

My god would be
Break
Read the next bulletin through
Touch up from makeup
Loo

It was 4 hours until her next bulletin, that seems like a lot of time for make-up touch ups and prep, do they research any of the news themselves or is that someone else's job? Also, what about radio news readers, what are they doing for an hour between each bulletin?

If she's on at 9 maybe they did a run through before, plus a pre read, make up etc so started say 7 o'clock so work 7-9 then break and start again at 10? So ab hour break for food etc?

Victoria fritz talked about this once, when she had a job doing two different bulletins at two different stations, like in two regions or two different topics (she's a business journo and newsreader) and she used to have to do some crazy floor change up and down in lifts to get to each live camera. I guess that it's all hands on deck, unless you're a really big presenter, most seem to pop up regionally and nationally.

If you ever go and watch a recording in the BBC radio theatre you can go and have a drink in the cafe overlooking the news area while you are waiting.

The journos seem to be at their desks or in conversation with each other, just like any other open plan office. Sophie R turns up in her jeans. Huw a bit smarter, but both change into their news reading outfits and have their hair and make up done before going into the studio.

All interesting points!
@Cuck00soup but doing what at their desks!? I am and have always been a teacher so never quite know how people who work office jobs structure their days if they don't have meetings but have multiple projects they're working on.

Ha ha. No ideaSmile. I've seen Huw in what looked like serious conversation with the economics editor and looking like he was reading something, but who knows. He could have been playing candy crush. Or on Mumsnet (hi Huw, if you're here)

Maybe he practises his "sitting waiting for the cue to start" pose and face Grin

A radio newsreader on a local commercial station will probably be doing absoultely everything - researching stories, writing scripts, interviewing, editing, deciding the running order, planning etc. A lot of the stories come in pre-recorded with a script from a central service or clips of interviews are sent to use in your own package.

A local TV news reader will be involved in editorial meetings, deciding running order, discussing stories/scripts, planning etc, preparing for interviews.

Thanks @chesirecat99 that's really interesting!
