Is there anyone living in Downley?

I grew up there, still visit my parents who are very integrated within the community, they've lived there for 50 years and are still active there.

I attended school and know a little about the 2 schools...what would you like to know, OP?

Thank you very much for your reply. I just want to know whether it is a peaceful area for young family to live. At the same time I would like to know about the primary schools choice as well. What schools you recommend.

The Downley School USED to be the school to go for. People the other side of the village would move properties solely to ensure they were in catchment for that one. However, within the last few years, the Disraeli School has overtaken and is now more highly sought after despite being in what's seen as the 'poorer' end of the village.

Safety-wise when I'm there and have to pop into the store by Common (open very long hours!) my back is always guarded but I'm naturally like that anyway no matter where I am. The Co-Op is useful as are the shops by the 2 parades/ the one at the top of Hithercroft & the other by Plomer Green Avenue. Getting to HW town centre in the snow & ice isn't that bad as generally the Council are good at gritting.

Quite a lot of events happen annually, especially in the Summer. Downley Day, a torch light procession on NYE, there's a Guy Fawkes trail around the village where residents make a guy if they choose to put one outside their home. There's a WI (!), Royal Horticultural Society etc.

There's a Community Centre as well as a village hall and several pubs.

Have a nosey here:

When I say 'poorer' it's not derogatory. It's semi-detached or terraced properties.

At the other end eg Sunnycroft, they're 'executive detached'.

Contrasting & different in size etc. is the angle I was trying to come from.

It is really nice to hear good things about Downley village. I had a good feeling when I visited there but wanted to know more information from someone who had been living in the village. I am just wondering if don’t have any places for my child’s year group what would be my other options. Do you know anything about Bled Law Ridge school Nap hill school and Great Kings-hill school?
I am so sorry if I am asking too much information. Your information is really helpful. X

Bledlow Ridge is a good village school with a real rural feel: only downside is parking!

Naphill & Walters Ash (& especially Lacey Green) have always been the most desired ones.
You honestly won't go wrong with any of them.
(Dreadful parking (doesn't every school?!)

Gt Kingshill I actually used to be connected to and I used to think it was wishy-washy. It didn't matter if homework wasn't done, no consequences for not following uniform regulations etc. I struggle with that.

Thanks again for spending time for sharing this useful information. I truly appreciate it.Hope you have great year ahead. Xx
