Looking for a cottage for me and DP in june.
Preferably in a village or town with a shop and pub.
Lots of walks on the doorstep.
Dark skies at night.
I've been on Airbnb all day and now they have all blended into one!
Anyone got any suggestions please?

You could just walk to the pub from here (although I wouldn’t recommend it from the roads!) but I cannot recommend this place highly enough:

I’m local, but I have had family and friends stay here for a holiday (that’s more relaxing than in my house 😂) and they love it!

PotteringAlong · 09/01/2022 18:28

Lots and lots of walks on the doorstep though and definitely dark skies at night!

We stayed at Warwick house in felton in May. Might be a bit bigger than you need with 3 bedrooms but fits your criteria...

Have you looked at Warkworth? Lovely little town with an awesome castle, on the river, very close to sea.

Hadenough21 · 09/01/2022 18:36

Look at Bamburgh - lovely beach, a few pubs / cafes / places to eat and a good base to go on walks from

JohannSebastianBach · 09/01/2022 18:38

Bamburgh, Seahouses, Beadnell area is gorgeous. Alnmouth is really nice too.

MrsPworkingmummy · 09/01/2022 18:43

If you'd like rural, but with dark skies, then the Breamish Valley/Linhope Spout is simply stunning. My children and I adore it. So many amazing places to visit in the county: Cragside, Wallington Hall and Belsay Castle are all fab full days out too. Then there's the coast, Warkworth etc ...

Lambley Farm Holiday cottages in Haltwhistle are beautiful too

We stayed here a few years ago at Sandpiper Cottage. It's not in a village but you can walk over the dunes and then onto the truly spectacular Ross Sands. www.rosscottages.co.uk/sandpiper-cottage-northumberland.cfm

Amble.

Glenthebattleostrich · 09/01/2022 22:23

Do you want beach or countryside?

We love staying in Hexham or Corbridge fir inland and Bamburgh or Amble for coast

Glenthebattleostrich · 09/01/2022 22:24

For dark skies, the closer to Keilder the better, or spend 1 or 2 nights there, it is absolutely gorgeous

RampantIvy · 09/01/2022 22:25

Rothbury

tootiredtospeak · 09/01/2022 22:32

We have stayed in Rothbury twice it's so nice it's a small village a few pubs a chippy a few independent shops but really central to all of the lovely places in Northumberland to visit. 20 minute drive to Alnwick round the corner from Cragside a lovely NT house. I would really recommend.

Timeandtune · 09/01/2022 22:55

This is lovely: www.tossontowerfarm.com/

Crowdfundingforcake · 09/01/2022 23:03

Bellingham for dark skies with pub and village shop.
Corbridge is lovely but not for star gazing.
Anywhere on coast north of Amble.
Rothbury.
Wooler - plenty of walking up into the Cheviots and there are pubs and a few small shops.

Crowdfundingforcake · 09/01/2022 23:04

Ford and Etal are nice - pretty thatched pub in Etal

saleorbouy · 09/01/2022 23:35

Beadnell is nice. Has pub and chip shop and a good base to see the area.

saleorbouy · 09/01/2022 23:41

I second a visit to Craigside, it's my favourite National Trust property.
Barter books in Anlwick is also great, the largest 2nd hand book shop in Europe located in the old railway station.

And cute train!
RampantIvy · 10/01/2022 07:42

IMO Cragside is the jewel in Northumberland's crown. The grounds are stunning and there is enough there to appeal to all ages.

Clareyck · 10/01/2022 07:50

Kielder for dark skies you cod visit the observatory there too. However it isn't near most other places. For lots to do pubs cafes beaches near nt places then Warkworth or Bamburgh

SirSamuelVimes · 10/01/2022 09:22

If you want quiet, rural idyll, go north of Alnwick, inland. Avoid anywhere near Seahouses.

tootiredtospeak · 10/01/2022 09:24

Tosson towers is where we stayed the last 2 times. You will have to drive into Rothbury from there though as it's high up but the view is amazing. Its definitely not a walk back from a pub kind of place though.

Holymotherforkingshirtballs · 10/01/2022 09:28

We stayed here last year. Just on the edge of Bamburgh Village, which has pubs and a few shops. Can walk to the beautiful beach. Easy to explore Northumberland using Bamburgh as a base.

We stayed at Southlands Farm Cottages once - would highly recommend.
