Does anyone else get a random letdown feeling in their breasts?

My youngest is 6 and I never successfully managed to breastfeed either of my children.

Every now and then though, I still get that random pins and needles feeling of a milk let down

Anyone else?
Why does it happen?

I have no milk (obviously) so why do I get that feeling

Me. I breastfed for nearly 6 years in total and even years later I still get the sensation sometimes. I don't know why!

YukoandHiro · 09/01/2022 18:59

Interesting! I get it randomly but I only stopped feeding my first when I was pregnant with my second so never been fully dry and not hormonally making milk since I started.

Do you get the firmness in the breast at the same time? Do you leak?

I've heard of adopting mothers and even grandmothers being able to relactate so the ability never entirely goes I don't think

Yes, I get it randomly for a few seconds sometimes. I got in the other day in fact. My youngest is nearly 12!! And I was absolutely terrible at breastfeeding. Limped along for a few months, never had enough milk, babies were always losing weight and so was advised to mixfeed. But still, weirdly, get the letdown feeling...

Yes! I had this the other day when my youngest was crying!! Not breastfed for over 2 years! Maybe linked to period as I was about to get it in next day or so?

TooMinty · 09/01/2022 19:06

My mum got it when I was bf my babies. 29 years after she fed her last baby! Your boobs have a long memory apparently...

Soubriquet · 09/01/2022 19:07

No firmness or leaking. Just the pins and needles sensation

It happens at random times and there’s no rhyme or reason as to why.

I got it up until menopause, but there was definitely no milk there. My youngest would have been early twenties at that point.

Evenstar · 09/01/2022 19:10

It was definitely in response to hearing a crying baby for me or seeing someone breastfeeding, even if it was on TV

lucillelarusso · 09/01/2022 19:11

Yes. Mine are 18 and 16. BF both for 18 months each. I get it sometimes when my niece cries, and other weird emotional times. Freaks me out!

Soubriquet · 09/01/2022 19:12

Yes! It sometimes happens to me when I see someone breastfeeding

Occasionally happens if I hear a new born baby cry but not everytime and then sometimes, it just happens. Like “right, time to feed that invisible baby”

Yes and mine are 15 and 18! Really blooming weird.

Interrobanger · 09/01/2022 19:13

Yes! My youngest is five. I BFd both of mine for about 18 months each. And even now I still get tingly tits. It’s really freaky.

Hugasauras · 09/01/2022 19:13

Yes! I binged the X Files when DD was a newborn and the theme tune gives me a letdown feeling Blush

Rummikub · 09/01/2022 19:16

Yes! This happens to me too. Triggered when I sometimes hear a baby crying. Really weird!

I got it reading this thread! Grin

Gardeningtipsneeded · 09/01/2022 19:24

Yes I do!! BF both of mine for 2 years or so but youngest is now 6. I can still hand express a bit too. I talk to women a lot about breast feeding in my job and it happens then some times. Other times random.

I read somewhere years ago (I don’t know if it’s true), that humans have been so successful at survival because of the ability of older women to relactate and thus feed babies who might otherwise starve.

Like I say, I have no sources so I have no clue if it’s actually true!
