Does anyone know how to make a Dyson work

I hate this vacuum with a passion. I'm not particularly cleaning minded and what can be done in 20 mins takes for fucking ever with this wankstain of a machine.

It's a V6 animal. The brushes will spin for 5 seconds and then stop. I've emptied it, opened the brush compartment and pulled out the hairs, I've dusted off the connections and no fucking change.

It's been doing it for a couple of weeks now and I just want to clean my house properly. The bastard is a few years old but in the first two years it was barely used as one of my parents 3 vacuum cleaners. My old Tesco vacuum, which I chucked when I got this, lasted over 10 years.

Help! How do I make this arsehole work?? I'm actually really frustrated, irrationally angry and cursing out an inaminate object.

If there is more than a spec of dust caught between the removable bucket and the tiny little metal parts that connect it it will stop working or do that irritating spin stop spin thing

Take out the brush head out and clean it too as hairs get trapped in there

@Popstarrrrr I found a guy off locally off Facebook. He sells refurbished Dysons.

Im in Manchester : don't know if prices vary from area to area

I used a cordless handheld for a year before discovering that the motor needs to be running to change from normal to super-sucky. The round blue button at the back. You can't do it when it's off. Someone on here told me.

Hate emptying it. It always needs something like a chopstick to shift the fluff that gets stuck in the drum.

@MustDust

When did you last wash the filter? My dyson cordless gets pissy when the filter isn't clean.
Mine too, I’ve given up and hauled out the full size one with a plug. Sod that for a laugh.

I've had 2 dysons and thought they were rubbish. The second one was a cordless, which looked flimsy, cheap and the suction was pretty pathetic. My current hoover is a Miele and feels more substantial and suction power is something else. I would never buy another dyson.

Popstarrrrr · 09/01/2022 20:42

@rainbowplease

My dyson did this today, filter was clean so couldn't work it out. Turns out the tube was blocked with needles from the Christmas tree - have you checked yours?
Yep. Could see all the way through. I've washed filter again. It's drying so let's see tomorrow.

In the meantime I used the tiny morpy Richards supervac from the top floor. Despite it being a glorified handheld on a stick, it did a pretty impressive job around whole house. Had to empty the miniscule dustbin twice but did whole house on one charge. Sucked up an impressive amount of gunk. It's really light so if Dyson continues to behave like a cock, I'll bring the supervac downstairs and use as main vacuum. As a previous poster said, who has time for all this faff!

Get rid of it and save your sanity.Constantly had to clean the filters to get mine to work. It's now in the shed and I've got a Henry which is brilliant.

‘How to fix Dyson Vacuum head - roller not spinning’ #billshowto

Watched this and removed the knot of hair and realised why I’d bought the Dyson; game changer.

Our handheld Dyson doesn’t work in the winter Grin. As our utility room gets too cold in Dec/Jan/Feb. It works fine come March, charges fine and works. It’s a pain in the arse though. I use a Vax the rest of the time it’s a beast but it actually works.

TooManyPJs · 09/01/2022 20:54

Is the tube blocked? If it is it turns itself on and if repeatedly after being on for a few seconds

Otherwise it could be that you need a new battery. We got ours off Amazon a few years ago and it's still going strong plus has a longer run time.

KnottyKnitting · 09/01/2022 21:01

The original Dysons were sturdy and fab!( old grey and yellow upright ones) they have become progressively worse since then.over priced weak plastic crap now...

vanessalightfoot · 09/01/2022 21:02

Not sure if yours is the same but on mine there is a little flap type thing in the bin section (where you click the main tube in) and it’s like a non return valve supposed to stop the crap from coming back down the tube. We had the pulsing or whatever they call it, which was caused by that flap being stuck open by some gunk. So the fix is to get right in there behind it with your finger until its loose and fall closed again.

Nomicron · 09/01/2022 21:06

It’s a while since I had a dyson so the service might have gone downhill but I phoned the helpline a couple of times and they were really good at talking through the issues and how to fix them as I did it over the phone.

Came on to say exactly this.
CrimbleCrumble1 · 09/01/2022 21:13

This kept happening with my Dyson, I looked on YouTube and it said to clean the filter with warm soapy water and dry somewhere warm.
It worked!

Those bastards hate Christmas tree needles. I had one jammed in the rubber seal. Took ages to work out what it was.

samthebordercollie · 09/01/2022 21:31

You can buy filters for a Dyson cordless on Amazon, a 2 pack costs nothing and with that you always have one in use. The quality is much better than the original Dyson filter too! Sometimes when you empty the hole in the tip of the waste collector remains blocked (with dog hair in my case) and it has to be emptied too. I like it as a second vacuum cleaner for daily easy use but when you live in the countryside with kids, dogs, cats and a husband who doesn't understand housework something more powerful (a Miele in my case) is required too
