I've just bitten the bullet and purchased one, was delivered today.
I'm going to try air fryer chicken and chips later!

I put a mix of veg in tinfoil to roast the other night, with a salmon fillet on top.

20 minutes. With no other intervention, and it was all ready to eat and absolutely gorgeous

Most days. I use it for lunches, things like chicken breast for salad or hashbrowns and sausages for dd. Pastries like sausage rolls and croissants are great in them. Wedges, chips, etc too

I've only recently started usding mine and it's a revelation! However how do you know how long to cook things for for the first time, eg frozen fish in batter for example the packet tells you how long in an oven is it quicker in air fryer or do you go by fan oven recommendation? Roast potatoes are much quicker I know but if I want to cook salmon which is quick anyway how long in air fryer?

@Spudbitch I chuck everything in for 8 mins and then check it to see how it’s going. Hasn’t failed me yet

With something like frozen battered fish, pies, garlic bread, anything reasonably thick that will be frozen solid in the middle, I zap in the microwave for a minute or two to thaw, then air fry to crisp it up (5 mins then 2-3 min intervals until it looks done).

How do you do wet things please? Like the veg casserole mentioned above?

Halloweiner · 10/01/2022 01:23

For timings on frozen stuff or anything oven cooked, I usually just half the time it gives for a fan oven. Has done me well so far!

I had an air fryer and absolutely hated it. I'm probably the only person in the world doesn't love it. I couldn't fit enough stuff in it. I recently had lunch at a friend's place, and she has just bought one, and loves it. However, the meal seemed to take forever as it had to be cooked in several stages because of the small amount she could fit into it.

It's only a personal taste, but I much prefer this: www.amazon.co.uk/halogen-oven/s?k=halogen+oven&tag=mumsnetforu03-21
Everything taste terrific, cooks really quickly and it's easy to clean.

I got one to lose weight too so following with interest!

Aside from the things already mentioned by others:

I heat up leftovers
It's good for doing small things that you wouldn't want the oven on for like: roasting nuts or seeds, roasting garlic etc.
I use it most days, well worth it

Dontletthemuggglesgetyoudown · 10/01/2022 03:40

Roast turkey breast (40 mins)
Bacon nachos (6 mins)
Meatballs (15 mins)
Cheese toastie 6 mins
Home made chips (30 mins)
Nando's style chicken (15 mins)

This is what we've used ours for this week

Those that do chips - do you just fill up the basket? I thought I wouldn’t be able to do that because everything needed air and space to cook.

I have an Actifry and it has a paddle so I hung it full of chips and it rotates and turns them. It does have a wire tray thing for the top which I haven't really used.

This thread is making me realise I should try a lot more than chips jn it!

I can't get enough of air fried cauliflower. Just chop into florets and toss in small amount of oil and spices (or hot sauce if in a hurry). Absolutely delish!

Franticbutterfly · 10/01/2022 07:42

Every day. Yesterday to cook butternut squash before putting it in a tagine. I wouldn't be without it and have hardly used my (very large) oven this last year because of it.
