Cat home and guests with dogs

So we have two kittens about 1 yr old.

They go out very little, maybe once a day for 10 mins. We prefer this as live in a busy area and main road. They play together a lot and have the run of the whole house.

Now more and more friends have dogs, and we get asked regularly whether it's ok to come over with their dogs. We used to say yes pre cats but now we have cats I am not keen on stressing my cats out so they can come with their dog ? Three of my closest friends now have dogs

What do other cat owners do ?

Unfortunately, dogs are really tying and too many people get dogs and don't realise (until it's too late) that they can't just be left on their own all day with no interaction.

I agree. Any pet is tying, which is why we don't have any pets.

Dog owner here... I don't know your friends, but I wouldn't even ask if I can bring the dog (s). I often suggest a walk in the park with a little coffee shop. All dogs should have the ability to spend a few hours by themselves.

As a dog owner this is not something I would ever expect. My dogs detest cats , but more importantly they are fine at home and if I have to be gone I arrange dog walker/ sitter / whatever to break up the day.

I'm not surprised by these comments in favour of the cats. It isn't fair for friends to ask for their dog, who could board or have a walker arranged, to have priority over the cats in their
place of safety.

@FuzzyPuffling

Can't people leave their dogs in the car if they must? Take it for a quick walk and a wee, then pop it back in the car.
No, definitely not.

You either do a dog-friendly activity (walk followed by lunch at a dog-friendly pub, for example) or leave the dog at home and arrange for a sitter, walker or daycare.

Dogs get stolen from cars all the time.

Hell to the no does anyone bring their dog into my home. I have four cats! They don't like dogs.. One positively hates dogs and would probably give it a smacking.

I don't take my cats to their home.

I have one friend that will turn up with her dog. She either has to take him home or leave him outside.

It's just fucking rude to rock up with your pet. If someone asks, then it's a definite no.

@gunnersgold

No way , no one brings their dog in my house . My cat would take its face off regardless if I allowed it or not ! It will very much upset your cat!
I have a dog hating cat. A friend brought their dog once and I let it inside because it was pouring with rain. The dog ended up with a bloody nose and the cat was furious for days.

I have friends with dogs but they have never once asked to bring them round.

If they did it would be the classic MN 'No, that doesn't work for me - or my cat.'
