Best flavours for flavoured vodka

For various boring reasons I won't go into, we've ended up with 2 open but almost-full litre bottles of Smirnoff. Neither DH or I like vodka much.

We might use some of it in cocktails (Cosmopolitan anyone? maybe too early) but we'll still have loads so I'm thinking of making a couple of bottles of flavoured vodkas. I've made blackberry and rhubarb vodkas in the past but of course it's not the right time of year and a google suggests frozen fruit doesn't work well. Does anyone have a recommendation for something available that now I could try?

Cola Cube

I like butterscotch, you use werthers originals, and I also like red berry and vanilla. I used frozen berries and was totally fine, you strain it.

Ooh never even thought of cola cube @LovelyYellowLabrador! Thank you.

@Bluntness100 that's interesting that frozen fruit worked for you - I've a bag of frozen berries in the freezer so could try that today.

YES!!!

But don’t forget to strain all the clumpy oil stuff off the top. Otherwise, drink of the gods

Op yes, I just added basically a bag of red berries, frozen, with sugar and vanilla sticks, I can’t find the recipe now, then I had to leave in a darkened place for two or three weeks, keep shaking, then strain it. It was lovely.

The other nice one is Turkish delight. Basically it’s sugar and rose water you add.

Frozen rhubarb works great. As does a punnet of raspberries. Toss in your jar straight from the freezer for max taste and colour. Add a spoonful or two of caster sugar as well at this point. Raspberry would be drinkable in about 4 to 6 weeks, rhubarb might take a bit longer. Depends if you like it mellow or burny!

For certain sweets, you can use the dishwasher method to speed things up. Seems to work best with boiled sweet types. Put your chosen sweets in, seal well and put in the dishwasher on a hot cycle. Might need two runs.

You still need to let fruit infuse for a couple of weeks, so this method isn't suitable for fruit.

Thank you everyone! I think I'll do one with frozen fruit and one with sweets (cola cubes really appeal but butterscotch might be easier to get hold of nearby.)

Also works with chocolate orange.
