Has anyone had an endometrial ablation?

I’m on the waiting list to have this done but with Covid who knows how long I will have to wait.
I’m so done with my really heavy periods, I am housebound for several days a month and am very anaemic (which obviously has its own awful symptoms). I need my periods gone, or at least reduced.
I am very nervous about having it done incase it fails. I also (stupidly) joined an ablation support group on FB, it was mainly women from the US but many had awful issues after the op with horrendous long term pain etc.
I’m 49 soon so am hoping it’ll take me through the menopause and beyond.
Anyone had this procedure?

Yes, didn’t help, they say 60% sucess, wish I hadn’t had it

Flowersupnorth · 09/01/2022 00:58

Yes I did along with a polyp removal. I also had a Mirena coil fitted at the same time. After about 6 months I no longer bleed at all. Aside from intense sickness from the general anaesthetic the pain wasn’t too bad and I was fully recovered within a few days. Good luck x

I haven’t, but a colleague did and says it was the best decision she’s ever made and only wishes she had it done sooner.

I have and was also sterilized at the same time. It’s the best thing I’ve ever done, I’ve barely had a period since and I had the procedure done 16 months ago.

I found it quite painful afterwards, but I have a low pain threshold. It took about 3 weeks before I felt completely back to normal, which I’m sure is longer than most. It was still totally worth it.

I did. Absolutely recommend it. Like you I was housebound. I was severely anaemic too. I had a week of watery discharge and no periods for years :)
Like you I made the mistake of Googling beforehand.

I did and it was life changing. One of the best things I ever have done!

RedPandaWanda · 09/01/2022 10:09

Thanks everyone , that’s all good to know.
Nsky I am sorry it didn’t help you. Did you manage to sort out the issue some other way. An ablation is about one of my only options unfortunately. I can’t have a hysterectomy and all the other options have failed me.

My best friend had and has been absolutely fine. She doesn’t regret it.
I had fibroids removed and Mirena inserted at the same time. It was absolutely life changing as the previous heavy blood loss made me very ill.

loopsaloo · 09/01/2022 10:15

I had it done! Absolutely changed my life.
The first time I went in for it, it was attempted with hysteroscopy and ablation with saline.
Total agony and I couldn't tolerate it. Second time it was done with Novasure. General anaesthetic, bit of pain afterwards but 100% worth it. Insist it's done this way. Good luck!

SailingandSauvignon · 09/01/2022 10:23

I had the novasure procedure done and haven’t had a period since.
I had discharge and cramping for a week to ten days after, and some serious bloating! After about 2 weeks I felt much, much better and am SO glad I had it done, totally life changing and I wish I’d done it sooner.

justaphasejustaphase · 09/01/2022 10:36

I had it done and it was amazing for 2 months. Very light spotting instead of having to change my clothes at least twice a day due to how heavy my flow was.

Unfortunately the 3rd month it was back to normal.

I ended up having a full hysterectomy which has been life changing for me.

Nsky · 09/01/2022 12:10

I went into full menopause 2 yrs later, more drama

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 09/01/2022 12:21

im onn the waiting list to have it done and i really hope it works. ive just had my third heavy period in six weeks and i am so over it!

Nicklebox · 09/01/2022 12:23

Hi this treatment worked very well for me. Was not painful afterwards and bleeding was very light for several years. It did start to get heavier again after that but then the menopause began for me. I would recommend it over other treatments I had a mirena coil but that didn't work for me.

RedPandaWanda · 09/01/2022 17:16

I’m due to have the Novasure under a local, I have heard it’s very painful which I’m not looking forward to but am so over these heavy periods.
