What are the worst offenders? What do we all do wrong?

I’d love to know so giving a bump.
I recycle everything I possibly can. I love that co op now take so much soft plastic.

& that Superdrug’s with a pharmacy take medicine blister packs.

I used to curse my old neighbours for putting dirty tins out -especially as on a windy day they would end up on our drive!
I hope I’m doing everything right -I saw lots of people put wrapping paper out in the paper recycling after Christmas. Drives me mad. Why don’t they check the council website for the list of acceptable stuff?

eurochick · 08/01/2022 17:49

Lots of wrapping paper is recyclable - we specifically chose paper that was.

Isgooglebroken · 09/01/2022 08:55

I too pick recyclable wrapping paper but, the shiny foil decorated paper I’ve seen people stuff in the bags -sometimes with ribbons attached!- really isn’t.

I never know what to recycle so I just put everything that's clean and dry into the recycle bin.

Paranoidandroidmarvin · 09/01/2022 09:02

I get mocked by people I know when I say I take my soft plastic recycling to Tesco. My council only does hard plastic and my bin was full of soft plastic. They now take that in a huge bin at the front of the store so we keep it and pop it in the bin when we go shopping.
Lots of people I know shove it in their recycle bin and I know they don’t take it. Why do that.

Whatayear81 · 09/01/2022 09:04

Apparently cleaning items before recycling is very important

GrowBabyGrow · 09/01/2022 09:06

Clean and dry is great but please please look on your council's website to check what can actually be recycled. Putting anything and everything in the recycling even if clean and dry actually 'contaminates' the recycling and it could mean the entire lot goes to landfill because they don't have the facilities to sort through it all

GrowBabyGrow · 09/01/2022 09:07

The message above was meant to be a reply to @BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation btw

@BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation

I never know what to recycle so I just put everything that's clean and dry into the recycle bin.
Don’t do that @BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation that’s worse than not recycling anything. You will be contaminating the whole batch meaning everything has to go to landfill!

Just log onto your council website and look at what your council recycle. It’s not hard.

I didn't know that about co op! They don't do that at our local one unfortunately but there's one 20 mins away, so we could collect for a few weeks then run it over. Thanks!

I agree that I had so many goady people at my old workplace shoving everything in the recycling bin - most of which was dirty. Used paper towels was one!! Grim.
