Podcasts - or background TV - for doing chores & keeping off Mumsnet?

I have some boring chores I really don't want to do today, but must.

Can anyone suggest some good podcasts or TV that's easy to have on in the background, to keep my mind occupied so I stop coming up with reasons to come back here! Grin

Thanks Smile

What sort of things do you find interesting if you were reading or watching TV?

ImInStealthMode · 08/01/2022 14:27

General interest podcast, No Such Thing As A Fish is both funny and informative. I really enjoy Bad People on BBC sounds too, True Crime / Psychology based, some quite dark subject matter but comedy too.

something you can hear/listen to in the background, while you get on with things.
avoid anything that requires looking at a screen.

On telly, I love series where I don't know what's going to happen next, so a range of genres but quirky stuff, not predictable plotlines.

Recently I've loved Aisling Bee's This Way Up.

I like comedy. My favourite films are often ones with British humour.

I'm a feminist activist (100% TERF!) so would enjoy stuff from actual feminists but lib fem nonsense like The Guilty Feminist will just piss me off!

I'm interested in science and tech. I loved Radio Lab (podcast).

I like learning about new stuff so documentaries about pretty much anything really, if they're well made and engaging.

"You're Wrong About..... " is brilliant. You are bound to find at least one episode that piques your interest, and the presenters are very humourous without cackling away annoyingly.

Sideways podcast on BBC Sounds is very thought provoking

Desert Island Discs (I prioritise women and there are some amazing women on there recently.) Also Sounds.

Women's Hour (can be variable)

Really love the Parenting Podcast by Josh Widdicombe and Rob Beckett. Very British humour and relatable (if you know, you know)

I love true stories and really good dramas. Try

Chameleon (series 1, the Hollywood Con Queen)
The Dropout both seasons (very topical as Elizabeth Holmes has just had her trial)
Passenger List (excellent gripping drama)
The Missing Cryptoqueen
Fake Heiress
Intrigue (the series titled Mayday)

Casmama · 08/01/2022 18:10

I agree with Shagged Married Annoyed- loads to catch up on, doesn't require much concentration and funny

Casmama · 08/01/2022 18:10

Pretty sweaty/ unsuitable for little ears so headphones a must if you have kids

Casmama · 08/01/2022 18:11

Sweary not sweaty

Ologies with Alie Ward is a good one! She invites on an expert to talk about a science or generally interesting subject. Recent ones have been graveyards, cats, knees, concussion and forensic ecology. It’s really accessible too, and I think there’s a swear-free version in case the kids are wandering in and out.
