It's currently on an obscure Sky Channel and i remember thinking it was hilarious.
Can you imagine it being made now? Shock

hated it...hated candid camera in all its incarnations, hated people do the funniest things. Hated Dom Joly hate "funny" videos of animals and kids having accidents....need I go on?

Sparklingbrook · 08/01/2022 15:48

@Pickledlipstick

I thought it was hilarious 😳😳
You are clearly a terrible person. Grin How dare you enjoy a Saturday light entertainment programme from the 80s!

Beadle would have 26,536 calls to 101 if he tried any of the pranks now.

I can't stand Impractical Jokers, even the screechy laughter on the adverts repels me.

Pickledlipstick · 08/01/2022 15:55

@Sparklingbrook I am a terrible person 😂😂. It was so funny though I’d love to watch it again!

Can you imagine the AIBU?

AIBU to think that Jeremy Beadle should not dig my front garden up as a joke. Then all the '999 NOW' replies. Grin

Beadle’s About wasn’t funny at the time and it still isn’t funny now. It was the underlying cruelty of it all that really bothered me.

The other thing I saw whilst flicking through the channels was Benny Hill - ugh.

How times change, thank goodness.

Rubyupbeat · 08/01/2022 16:03

Before Jeremy was candid camera, now as an adult I am surprised that some folk didn't have heart attacks at some of the pranks.

PlanktonsComputerWife · 08/01/2022 16:05

I like some Benny Hill, too, especially the song Garden of Love.

Also love Ricky Gervais and Harry Enfield and most John Cleese things even though he's a twat IRL.

I'll get me coat...Grin

Pickledlipstick · 08/01/2022 16:08

Someone thought the garden was being turned into a bus stop 😂😂. Sorry I have an every sense of humour- I’d love to see that one

Sparklingbrook · 08/01/2022 16:11

I saw that Benny Hill was on the other day but thought that a step too far. Also I noticed Kenny Everett was on. Shock

As a child I remember KE with those ginormous hands saying he was going to put people in a field and 'bomb the bastards' never mind Cupid Stunt. Grin

I could never watch it - I remember being in tears watching Candid Camera with my granny as a little girl as I hate watching people humiliated. I don't suppose it's aged at all well!

OhWhyNot · 08/01/2022 16:11

Grin I found that funny

amusedbush · 08/01/2022 16:27

I hated You’ve Been Framed - I can’t bear to watch people hurting themselves. I don’t find pranks funny at all either, not in real life or in TV.

It was shite in the form of Beadle’s About, then shite when it was Punk’d, now it’s still shite as Impractical Jokers.

I get the worst secondhand embarrassment watching grown men howling with laughter, egging each other on in these stupid pranks.

Sparklingbrook · 08/01/2022 16:31

I don't mind You've been Framed in that they didn't set out to hurt themselves it's just a set of accidents, and nobody is pranking them as such, they've agreed to it being shown-even sending the clip in and claiming their £150!

I hated it. Always thought it was beyond cringey, and into bullying. I was quite a sensitive child and usually got upset watching it and went upstairs to do colouring instead!

beentoldcomputersaysno · 08/01/2022 16:31

@PlanktonsComputerWife

You definitely have to be a certain type of stupid to like it as I did.Wink
Me too!
TheAntiGardener · 08/01/2022 16:43

I saw a Beadle’s About the other day. It wasn’t funny, but I think cruelty is a bit strong for a brief prank where no one is hurt.

You’ve Been Framed is awful though. There really is nothing amusing about painful accidents.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 08/01/2022 17:21

@ChirpyChirp

I remember the episode with the aliens landing in the person's garden. It was so cruel because the person was SO happy and amazed. And then it was all fake. They were clearly so disappointed but had to pretend to be amused. It made me cry 😭

Horrible!

I'm the third person on the thread who remembers this one! I also thought it was awful, but my memory of it is that she seemed to be in genuine shock. She could hardly speak, her voice was shaking so much, and she was crying but also really wired. Then she started singing a nursery rhyme to the 'alien'. Poor woman, she must have felt utterly humiliated.
HoldingTheDoor · 08/01/2022 17:24

I remember it too though I don't think I watched it live but I saw it on another show. She offered the alien a cup of tea. I felt so bad for her.

Sparklingbrook · 08/01/2022 17:28

I don't remember it but here's a bit about the alien. I don't think I can watch.

heelforheelandtoefortoe · 08/01/2022 18:23

I remember the alien. It was really funny at the time. But looking back, how can you not know its a wind up???

Sparklingbrook · 08/01/2022 18:39

You would have thought that after the first series of BA was aired then people might have an inkling that their mates might write in and nominate them for a shock. These people weren't chosen at random I assume their friends/family thought they would be good sports about it? Confused
