Where can I search for jobs with reasonable salaries?

Firstly, I know there's a specific employment board but I wanted as many suggestions as possible.

I'm a very experienced secondary school teacher but I'm just done with it. I don't really want to work in the public sector at all.

This may seem like wishful thinking and maybe I'm just influenced by a Mumsnet fantasy, but I'd like some of the work from home (or hybrid) on a decent salary action. Even better if the organisation values its staff.

But where to look? Other than TES/ETeach for teaching roles, all I really know of is Indeed and I can never find anything on there that meets my admittedly pie in the sky criteria. Any suggestions please?

Hello OP,

Firstly what kind of salary are you talking?

I have a hybrid wfh/office role- people and project management. I usually look at linkedin for roles.

What kind of job are you interested in? What skills do you want to focus on?

I work for an organisation that massively values its staff and has a great corporate culture.

I’ve just left my role as a secondary assistant head - what’s your subject specialism? I’ve used Indeed to find a number of roles on a self employed/freelance basis. They’re working mainly for EdTech companies doing content creation and also quite a lot of tutoring. All working from home, in total my income is the same bar the pension.

PhilCornwall1 · 08/01/2022 11:56

What are you qualified to do (not just teaching) and what salary are you looking for?

Do you have a LinkedIn profile? All of my professional roles in recent years have been through there.

mynameiscalypso · 08/01/2022 11:57

LinkedIn for me too.

MajorCarolDanvers · 08/01/2022 11:58

What kind of role do you want? What sector?

MajorCarolDanvers · 08/01/2022 11:58

Also agree with LinkedIn

AlexaShutUp · 08/01/2022 11:58

What kind of role are you looking for, and what kind of salary? What transferable skills do you have?

I know quite a lot of teachers who have left the profession. Most have taken a significant pay cut initially, then built back up.

Are you looking for permanent wfh jobs or would you consider roles that are temporarily remote only?

BunnyBerries · 08/01/2022 12:03

How are you finding the roles? Check out LinkedIn for people who have similar skills to you and you will see where they work. I've worked in a place that employed recruiters and the jobs with reasonable salaries very very often don't publish the salary and negotiate it when offered. Because it garners too many unqualified people desperately applying for it and having to sift through/answer them all. Whereas jobs with low salaries will always publish the salary range to manage expectations. So I know it sounds simple, but if you only search via salary you may be unlikely to find them.

BitterTits · 08/01/2022 12:03

@GivenchyDahhling that sounds promising. Good tip. Subject specialism is English.

I'm interested in learning and development but very open minded. I have leadership experience and worked for a while in a technical role in NHS too.

You might want to consider the third sector. Try charity.job.co.uk

GivenchyDahhling · 08/01/2022 12:12

@BitterTits I’m maths, I imagine English is in similar demand. Pearson/Edexcel had a lot of examiner/assessment creation vacancies before Christmas too. Again on a flexible/freelance basis.

BitterTits · 08/01/2022 12:15

I've never really used LinkedIn properly so that's a really good place to start. Thanks folks.

If you are in Scotland try myjobscotland. All the public sector jobs are advised there. I think the civil service has a dedicated job site too.

Great, I'll take a look.
