Tell me what you do for work

I'm planning my escape from nursing, I just cannot imagine spending another 30 years of my working life working in such an environment.

Would anyone be keen to share with me what you do for work and what qualifications you needed? I would be willing to retrain, but if there are similar roles that I could get into with a nursing degree that I might be interested in then even better.

I just don't know what's out there anymore, and I feel like I've forgotten what I even enjoy too, so open to lots of suggestions, thank you!

Oh, and also, can you do bank in any different areas to see what they are like? I found seeing different areas made me realise that not all jobs were as awful as my old one!

If you do apply for any other nursing jobs, ask to do an informal visit before accepting it to get a feel of the atmosphere.

I'm a certified book-keeper and commercial lettings account manager (no residential properties). Love it, but retire at the end of this year.

My job needs an aptitude for figures, an incredibly nit-picky nature and an eye for detail. Aside from that, I did several online courses finishing up with an exam at a Pearson Vue exam centre. I worked as a book-keeper but had previous experience with managing commercial lettings. Now I combine both worlds and enjoy it very much.

Quality care commission roles?

Sorry, CQC.

For something completely different - horticulture! It is not a well paid choice by any means ( you might hit £35k/per annum as a Head Gardener), a bit grim at this time of year, out in all weathers, but a fantastic environment in which to work and you are still caring for and nurturing living things!

Teacher
Was previously director of finance but the hours and the stress were killing me, and quite frankly I just didn't enjoy it.
I'm doing my teacher training through teach first, so you get a placement school and a earn a salary. It's a bit like an apprenticeship. The hours are still long but it's honestly so rewarding. By the end of this academic year I will be qualified. I'm hoping to stay in my current school but this may not be an option.

I moved from being an ODP in a theatres into Stat and Mand Education which was lovely.

My husband's job took us abroad so I started freelancing as a writer for websites and blogs and now I've pretty much replaced a mid Band 5 salary working from home.

@Noonoo88

I'm a care technology advisor. Nobody quite rightly ever knows what that means! Basically I work for a care technology company, advising social workers and clients on pieces of equipment to help elderly/disabled people stay at home longer/lead more independent lives/stay safe whilst also reducing the need for social care and essentially saving the local authority money. Three days a week, 9-5, pay is slightly above min wage but I essentially plan my own workload and get to work from home when I'm not on visits to clients. We are expanding and always looking for new people 😊
How did you get into this? I'm not a nurse but work in social care and am looking for a way out that isn't hospitality or retail. I've worked in all 3 and they're all a bit grim in their own ways, but social care is going from bad to worse at the moment.

Something like this sounds appealing to me!
