Ghoster getting back in touch

I was ghosted by a friend about 8 or 9 years ago, not a relative but close ish friend and was a bridesmaid at my wedding 15 years ago. I was pretty upset at the time of being ghosted, I never really knew why, but coincided with a new relationship for her (and I think her partner suspected me of fancying my friend - I'm a lesbian - and I also suspect my friend may have told her new partner some fanciful things about me).
I moved on, although very occasionally hear about her, she moved a long way away a few years back and I drew a line.
I had a message from a new number on Christmas Eve wishing me Happy Christmas. I haven't replied.
Has anyone here been unghosted or experienced similar? What happened? I don't plan on responding but I occasionally waver.

Hmm that's strange. I hate ghosting, but then I do sometimes wonder if being told up front would be harder to take.

Are you absolutely sure it was her?

TrophyWinner · 07/01/2022 15:35

Was it a personal message? I got one from a friend I wasn't expecting to hear from and I suspect she just sent it to all her contacts.

EmmaH2022 · 07/01/2022 15:38

Sort of
I got an email invite to a party from someone who had vanished

There were no hard feelings on my part but I also didn't want to revive the friendship so I didn't reply.

Good point @TrophyWinner it wasn't personalised, it was on WhatsApp and she also sent a photo of herself and her partner (the same one). I'm not sure if sending to all is possible to do on WhatsApp.

Assuming you've lived a full and happy life in the intervening years, I'd ignore.

MsFogi · 07/01/2022 17:56

OP are you sure it wasn't simply a broadcast NY message to all her contacts on WhatsApp?

theNumbersStation · 07/01/2022 17:58

I’ve been ghosted after many years of friendship.

I was later told the reason by a mutual friend (I wouldn’t fit in with the ghoster any more because I couldn’t have children).

She was once stood with a group of people (including the mutual friend who spoke to me) and she looked through me as if I wasn’t there.

Beyond hurtful.

So if she ever sent a generic hello or a personal one, I’m afraid I wouldn’t respond.

MsCoffee · 07/01/2022 18:01

It wasn't a broadcast, it didn't have the little megaphone symbol.
It's also from a number I don't have... So they've presumably seen that I'm still in their contacts?

OP, they'd have had to add you to a new phone?

Numbers I'm stunned by that. Any chance the mutual friend wasn't telling the truth?

theNumbersStation · 07/01/2022 18:42

No emma

I’d already had quite a few quiet little comments along the lines of ‘you wouldn’t understand’, ‘but you won’t know that’ and similar.

It rang true to me.

JeSuis · 07/01/2022 18:44

number, that's honestly one of the shittiest things I've ever heard! What a horrible person!

Op, I'd ignore it. A generic happy Christmas wouldn't make up for ghosting for me.
